assignment

Please read the instructions well and everything they ask for. Teacher is very intense. let me know if you have access to databases in the Walden Library.
I will attach previous work… thank you

To Prepare:

· Review the Resources and identify a clinical issue of interest that can form the basis of a clinical inquiry.

· Develop a PICO(T) question to address the clinical issue of interest you identified in Module 2 for the Assignment. This PICOT question will remain the same for the entire course.

· Use the key words from the PICO(T) question you developed and search at least four different databases in the Walden Library. Identify at least four relevant systematic reviews or other filtered high-level evidence, which includes meta-analyses, critically-appraised topics (evidence syntheses), critically-appraised individual articles (article synopses). The evidence will not necessarily address all the elements of your PICO(T) question, so select the most important concepts to search and find the best evidence available.

· Reflect on the process of creating a PICO(T) question and searching for peer-reviewed research.

·

The Assignment (Evidence-Based Project)

Part 2: Advanced Levels of Clinical Inquiry and Systematic Reviews

Create a 6- to 7-slide PowerPoint presentation in which you do the following:

· Identify and briefly describe your chosen clinical issue of interest.

· Describe how you developed a PICO(T) question focused on your chosen clinical issue of interest.

· Identify the four research databases that you used to conduct your search for the peer-reviewed articles you selected.

· Provide APA citations of the four relevant peer-reviewed articles at the systematic-reviews level related to your research question. If there are no systematic review level articles or meta-analysis on your topic, then use the highest level of evidence peer reviewed article.

· Describe the levels of evidence in each of the four peer-reviewed articles you selected, including an explanation of the strengths of using systematic reviews for clinical research. Be specific and provide examples.

Clinical issue (Patients problem)

In this scenario, I am a surgeon who has a patient that is suffering from rheumatoid arthritis. I am interested in researching the outcomes in patients who have undergone a surgical procedure known as arthroplasty to restore their deformed arms. From previous experiences I have performed the procedure on a number of patients who seem to be very satisfied about how they look after the surgery and therefore they give positive feedback. Bloch, J. R., Courtney, M. R., & Clark, M. L. (2018). Despite the positive feedback from the patients I question if the arms of the patient’s function well after the surgical procedure or the positive feedback from the patients is due to their hands looking less deformed than how they were before the procedure. I therefore want to conduct research on this topic to determine whether arthroplasty has better results on the patients than no surgery at all on the affected areas.

There are various strategies I will utilize to increase rigor and effectiveness when searching regarding the PICOT question. The first strategy is to choose the most significant keywords and I will also utilize various Boolean operators such as “OR” and “NOT.” Another strategy is to limit the search to peer-reviewed articles to ensure that the information obtained is relevant and effective to avoid research errors. It is also crucial to limit the search to articles produced within the last five years to ensure the information obtained is relevant and represents current issues. If the materials are from the past, they might not be effective because the research is on a recent clinical issue. Finally, the significant words must be in the title of the research materials. Utilizing the strategies will ensure that the information about the PICOT question is adequate.

Which study methods can be used to determine the effect of surgery on patients suffering from rheumatoid arthritis

There are 2 study types that can be used in this research

i) Randomized control trial

This is a study type where the people to take part in the study are chosen at random from an eligible population

This type of study is not suitable for this research since surgical procedures cannot be conducted on random people

ii)Prospective Cohort studies

In this type of study, a group of individuals who have undergone a surgical procedure and another group who have not undergone surgery are observed over a long period of time to determine the effect of the surgical procedure. Bloch, J. R., Courtney, M. R., & Clark, M. L. (2018).

Do patients who have undergone arthroplasty show better performance than those who have not

Arthroplasty surgery was performed on a group of patients and their progress was observed over a period of time. Questionnaires were also given to the patients to get feedback on the patients about their recovery and performance.

According to the information obtained from the questionnaires and biochemical measurements, there was a great improvement in the performance of the hand.

Conclusion

Performing surgery(arthroplasty) on patients suffering from rheumatoid arthritis has a better result than any other form of treatment.

HI EVERYONE!

Received a few questions in the past about Part 2 specifically related to the rubric and if one needs to present for each article its strengths associated with systematic review, and level of evidence.

The visual example I shared in doc sharing only contained an example of 1 specific article, not all 4 since it was only to serve as a visual reference.  Therefore, after review of the rubric and potential questions one would possibly ask, I want to provide clarity as to what is expected in the Power Point.

NO voice narration needed within this power point.  DO NOT use speaker notes. I want to see succinctly pinpointing content within the power point.

TO CLARIFY – Provide full citation of all 4 systematic review articles located AND identify the Level of Evidence (according to John Hopkins level of evidence – see doc sharing).  Then, present a detailed explanation of the strengths of using systematic reviews overall AND as it relates specifically to your topic.  For this part, combine all the information (i.e., share info via synthesis).  I went ahead and made what I believe is an improved example of two main slides (see below pics).  Feel free to set your power point up any way you wish, or you can utilize the flow and arrangement of the visual guide if you like.

HANDOUT:  Earlier this month I shared a handout again called “Types of Articles”  – Revisit this handout as it does present systematic reviews and more. I also placed the handout in doc sharing.

I hope the above helps to clarify questions you might have.

A suggested PowerPoint slide organization is shared below:

Basic Rundown of each slide (FYI – title and reference page does not count towards total slide count):

Slide 1: Title slide

Slide 2:  clinical issue of interest – identify and succinctly describe

Slide 3:  PICOT question – Identify and succinctly describe what each Population, Intervention….C…O….T

Slide 4:  Databases Selected for Search  – Identify 4 specific databases utilized to conduct search (why selected would be nice to know – also good place to bring in resource of support such as Walden Library resources)

Slide 5/6:  Articles Located – Here provide full APA citations for each article; identify level of evidence according to John Hopkins (see Types of Articles Handout).  If you need an additional slide here, that is OKAY.

Slide 7:  Strengths of Systematic Reviews – Here identify strengths of using systematic reviews. Demonstrate synthesis  — Bring in support of course resources and additional outside resources.

Slide 8:  Reference list formatted in APA – no bullet points

Be sure to check out info shared in Doc Sharing of the course.
