what are the procedures in criminal case?

First, be able to give me a brief description of what criminal law is.

Then, go step by step. When someone thinks that a crime has been committed, what happens? Who investigates? How do they investigate? How do they take a case to court? What are the steps and the terminology that describes how a case starts and what each step is in the process. Be sure to especially describe the procedures for including juries in the trial. Then once a case has gone all the way through trial, what are the procedures after that, if a defendant wants to appeal?
