Project Outline Suad Ahmed MGT 3130 Business Research and Decision-Making Dr. Melissa Goodson October 28, 2022 Introduction · Human beings are social animals, which means that they operate best when they connect with each other. However, the COVID-19 pandemic forced people to work in isolation, affecting communication and collaboration. Although meeting frequencies · One major problem is that many studies are focusing on mental health and productivity, with few focusing on the effect on working from home on teamwork or collaboration. Study objectives 1) To evaluate the effect of teamwork on innovation 2) To investigate the impact of working from home on teamwork 3) To understand the effect of working from home on innovation and productivity Significance of the study Ø As earlier noted, there are few studies on the effect of working from home on collaborative teamwork. Therefore, the information from the current study will help bridge the existing gap Ø The study will also add new information on the issue of working from home Ø The study also calls for future studies to research more on how working from home is preventing employees work as a perfect team Literature Review Yang et al. (2020) illustrates that lack of collaboration has lowered a team’s level of creativity. Yang et al. (2022) states that working from home made teams less interconnected. It affected modes of communication team members use to collaborate with one another Al-Habaibeh et al. (2021) state that working from home loses team spirit and accuracy. It also leads to distractions, which negatively affects team productivity Research methodology The case study research will utilize multiple-case design to note and compare past studies information on the effect of working from home on team collaboration. Results § The study will summarize the findings of different case studies utilized in the literature review section Analysis of results o Through in-vivo coding, the study will come up with codes from extracts of different case studies, which will help come up with the observed themes Discussion Working from home has its benefits such as saving time due to limited travel but it too has its disadvantages. For example, It affects team spirit of collaboration due to isolation created by lack of face to face communication Recommendations Ø When employees are together, make sure to schedule some team-building activities outside of the office. Encourage employees to share a little about themselves (within the realm of whats appropriate and comfortable). While it may not seem immediately productive, small talk can help create personal connections, build empathy, and strengthen working relationships.
