· What actions are you taking toward living out your calling?
I am taking action toward living out my calling by returning to school to receive a degree in the area of my desired vocation. I have also looked into other forms of training in my area of calling to pursue when I am not taking a class.
· What barriers are preventing you from living out your calling?
There are a couple of barriers that have prevented me from living out my calling. The first barrier has been making the time: I run my household; I manage a business from my home; I have a large circle of friends and family that I choose to spend time with; I travel quite a bit; I try to maintain an active lifestyle for my health including exercise; and I incorporate daily devotions including reading from the Bible and journaling. Whew! Just listing them makes me tired. The second barrier that has prevented me from living out my calling I would honestly have to say is myself, my own fears and doubts about: whether or not this really is my calling; whether or not I can do this (meaning school); and whether or not I am really will be able to live out my calling.
· How are you removing the barriers so that you can live out your vocation with integrity?
The first barrier that needed to be confronted was the barrier of managing my time. I took some advice from one of the helpful documents that our professor, Mr. Yocum, sent to us called “14 Tips For Time Management.” Some of the tips I have incorporated from this list are: getting up an hour earlier each day; doing the harder things first; scheduling deadlines on the calendar before the actual deadline; scheduling time to check emails; taking regular breaks; and only moving papers one time. It is still a work in progress, but I am making headway. I still take time for my devotions (just an hour earlier), I schedule in exercise time for a shorter time slot and do some if it from home to save time, and I have talked with my friends and family about when I can take time to meet with them or talk with them on the phone, they all understand and have supported me in this. I also hired more support to accomplish what needs to be done in my small business and my household.
The second barrier of my own fears and doubts is being confronted through daily prayer and blind trust that God has called me to do this. I first felt led to pursue my calling eight years ago and put it off for various reasons. I know in my heart that I am on the right path and that God’s timing is perfect. I keep reminding myself of this truth when I have doubts about my calling. God has consistently brought people around me who have confirmed what He has called me to do. These people encourage me and they seem to have no doubt that I am called in this direction. I am choosing to believe that I am on the right path and I comfort myself in knowing that God will be with me (Heb. 4:16) and He will help me (Ps. 56:4) and He will direct my steps (Prov. 16:9).

Emily,
I was glad to see that someone else thought of themselves as a barrier too. Sometimes we are just too tough on our selves. I love the biblical quotes you used. Do you believe that God was calling you to start accomplishing your life calling sooner than now? Sometimes I get that feeling.
God bless,
Stephani

I can relate to feeling like one of the barriers is yourself. I would venture to say there are a lot of us that feel that way. Overthinking or negative thinking and fear can be paralizing. Trust in God and don’t worry. He’s got you. And having said that I should follow my own advice. LOL 🙂

Emily:
I am often my own worst enemy! But learning to challenge what I think of myself and why (more so in these recent weeks!) is allowing me to discover who God believes (says) that I am! Learning to walk in that image (the one God defines) isn’t easy but in doing so, comes a sense of peace that I really am at a loss to explain.
I think it was Vaughn who suggested in his paper that consistency was a way to tear down the barriers. I am finding this to be completely true, if I am consistent in challenging my thought processes and my feelings the fear and anxiety seem to just diminish. And I am finding that I am daily reminding myself of II Timothy 1:7 (KJV), “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” (And, admittedly there are days, that I am reminding myself repeatedly!!)
Thank you for sharing – continued blessings!
