Dr. Montalvo is an undergraduate instructor at ABC University in Nevada. She teaches a face-to-face course (in-person) English and has students in her class are from U.S., Guinea, India, and South Korea. She regularly includes discussion activities in her lessons and expects students to be active participants in these discussions. She selects discussion prompts that she hopes will encourage debate, as well as close analysis of the reading text that the class is reading. However, she has been frustrated by some of her studentsâ€™ participation in these discussions. They contribute very little, and in general, they tend to avoid controversial topics.

Using the scenario above, please address the following questions

What impact might culture have on participation in classroom discussions?
Considering physical, emotional, experiential, and knowledge readiness, how can the instructor improve her teaching effectiveness by understanding these concepts to increase motivation considering the cultural differences and experiences?

Discussion Assignment Instructions

The student will complete four Discussions in this course. The student will post one thread of 400-500 words by 11:59 p.m. (ET) on Thursday of the assigned Module: Week. The student must then post 2 unique replies of 200-300 words by 11:59 p.m. (ET) on Sunday of the assigned Module: Week. For each posting, students should address every aspect of the prompt and support their assertions with at least 2 peer reviewed articles in APA format in addition to the biblical references and textbook. Biblical application should be clearly communicated. Keep in mind that merely adding a Bible verse is not a demonstration of biblical application/worldview, applying the Bible verse to the prompt is required.

Each reply must incorporate at least 2 scholarly citations in APA format. Each reply should be unique and not repeat prior material (either the post or the reply). Each posting/reply should demonstrate critical analysis with scholarly evidence from peer reviewed articles appropriate for a doctoral level program. Any sources cited must have been published within the last five years using current APA formatting.
