Why is the Likert Scale considered an interval scale if the distance between two points is not calculable?

Why is the Likert Scale considered an interval scale if the distance between two points is not calculable? For example, i cannot determine the value between “agree” and “somewhat agree” on a scale, so why would it not be ordinal? Everything is scored on a 7-point Likert scale characteristic of the measure of help essential to execute everything (1=total help, 7 = downright autonomy). A basic “summed score of 18 – 126” is gotten where 18 speak to finish reliance/all out help and 126 speak to complete. In scales utilizing summed “Likert scales”, data contained inside of individual reactions vanishes in the aggregate scale score.
