Policy regulations can protect victims of intimate partner violence and help reduce its high prevalence rates.

Intimate Partner Violence is on the rise globally and especially in the United States. This type of violence is often not given much attention and couples in intimate relationships are expected to manage their issues. A lot of people in intimate relationships are victims of Intimate Partner Violence therefore, the need to formulate policies that will help solve the issues.

In the United States, millions of people in romantic relationships are affected by Intimate Partner Violence.

Studies show that one in every four women in a romantic relationship experiences Intimate Partner Violence (Peitzmeier et al., 2020).

One in every ten men in a romantic relationship experiences Intimate Partner Violence

Forty-three million women and 38 million men experience psychological aggression from their romantic partners.

Intimate Partner Violence is prevalent in the United States. Research shows that one in every four women in intimate relationship experience Intimate Partner Violence. One in every ten men go through the same experience. Many of the Intimate Partner Violence victims suffer in silence as there are no enough laws and polices to protect them from such abuse. Fear and shame is also attributed to their silence.

Intimate Partner Violence occurs at different relationship levels

Intimate Partner Violence begins early in teenage relationships and is prevalent in romantic relationships, including marriage.

In adolescence, Intimate Partner Violence is called teen dating violence (TDV).

Millions of teenagers experience this type of violence from their partners.

About 11 million women and 5 million men report they first experienced Intimate Partner Violence before eighteen years (World Health Organization, 2021).

Young people from marginalized groups experienced more cases of Intimate Partner Violence.

There is a need for a policy that will protect young people from Intimate Partner Violence because it begins in teenage and prevails all through adulthood.

Intimate Partner Violence begins in teenage relationships and it is prevalent even in marriages. Teen dating violence occurs ion teenage romantic relationships. With the limited knowledge that teenagers have on this issuer, they are often the biggest victims . In adults who experience Intimate Partner Violence , they report t have experienced their first ever Intimate Partner Violence before they turned eighteen years. This indicates that failure to control Intimate Partner Violence in teenagers advances the behavior in adults.

Effects of Intimate Partner Violence

Results in physical injuries.

Intimate Partner Violence can also result in death in cases where intense physical abuse occurs.

U.S. crime reports that about 1 in 5 homicide victims are killed by an intimate partner (World Health Organization, 2021).

Care home policy- Offer a safe home for Intimate Partner Violence victims.

Training policy- Teach teenagers and young people about healthy relationship skills.

Protective environment policy – improve the climate and environment, ensuring the safety of people in intimate relationships.

The policies that will help address Intimate Partner Violence include Care home policy, Training policy and Protective environment policy.

Care home policy

A lot of people remain in abusive relationships because they have no place to go.

The policy will offer a safe place for partners in abusive relationships who have to remain there because they have no other safe place to go (Peterson et al., 2018).

The policy will require each ward to create a care home for people experiencing Intimate Partner Violence.

The care homes will provide safety to the victims.

Care home policy entails creating a safe house for Intimate Partner Violence victims who do not have a safe place to stay. This will be conducive for married people in abusive marriages and have nowhere else to go. The care homes will be run by the county and operated in every ward. The homes will offer different type of training to the victims, empowering them to live better lives by getting out of abusive relationship.

Training policy

The policy will encourage healthy relationships by offering relationship skills to young people.

Studies show that Intimate Partner Violence begins during the teenage; the policy will therefore ensure teenagers and young people are taught skills on how to engage in healthy relationships that do not involve violence (Alhalal, 2020).

Empower Intimate Partner Violence victims to seek help and change

The training policy will train people about healthy relationships. The training will equip individuals with the right skills regarding intimate relationships, therefore, avoiding the violence. The training shall be conducted in learning institutions where teenagers shall be targeted as they are highly affected by Intimate Partner Violence.

Protective environment policy

The policy will aim at discouraging Intimate Partner Violence by creating a safe environment that offers protection for intimate partners.

Safety in schools should be improved to prevent Intimate Partner Violence in teenage relationships where it is prevalent.

Organizations and workplaces to improve employee safety. This will Intimate Partner Violence in workplaces (Peitzmeier et al., 2020).

Improve the physical and social environment of neighborhoods. This will reduce physical violence and stalking.

Protective environment policy will focus on creating a conducive environment that protects all people in intimate relationships from violence. The policy protects initiate partners in schools, homes and workplaces. Physical and social environment in homes, schools and workplaces will be improved through this policy.
