Purpose: This assignment will enhance your Skills in political analysis and strategies aimed at influencing policy changes.

Directions: Upload a 5 paged double spaced paper (excluding cover page and reference page) 

Define Context of the Policy Issue/ Problem: Briefly describe the political context for the issue under examination. Include the socio-political, economic, ethical, historical, cultural factors relevant to the issue.  This step is crucial in forming the basis for the policy analysis. Include the 5Ws and H (who, what, when, where, why and how) aspects of the issue. Provide a specific practice based concern or public health issue of concern at State or National level. 

Policy Lenses: Briefly discuss how your personal values, beliefs, experiences, ethics, political philosophies and ideologies guide your views about the issue.

Describe a specific policy framework/model of choice that applies to your issue

Evidence Based Policy Change: Discuss research and evidence based policy change strategies and options to address the issue. Using a balanced approach discuss at least two alternative policy responses for consideration Examine the “best practices” of other agencies, as well as emerging policy proposals. 

Apply the selected model/framework and analyze the political feasibility of solving the issue using the selected framework. What are the key concepts in the model/framework? How does your policy issue fit within this framework? What are the barriers and facilitators in addressing the issue? How can you advance this issue on the policy agenda? Who holds the power to advance this issue? What networks and coalitions exist that are involved in this issue

Recommendations: Of the two policy alternatives you presented, end your policy analysis with a summary of the preferred policy option. Justify why this option is preferred.Conclude with a discussion of the implications for nursing leadership policy and practice.

Phase 1

WHY IS THIS ASSIGNMENT IMPORTANT?

An E-Portfolio is a digital tool used to demonstrate life-long learning, skills, experiences, and interests. Businesses are using these in place of resume submissions. Just the way, professional websites offer valuable current information for the working professional, this will allow you a chance to showcase your professional skills in a digital and interesting manner.

The Health Studies program has implemented E-Portfolios as a way for each student to collect, reflect upon, build and publish a digital archive for their academic work and experiences.  This digital tool will be completed in three phases. You will complete phase I in this course. Please use the documents and powerpoints below to complete the assignment. 

WHAT I WANT YOU TO DO:

1. Use the powerpoints provided to discover how to create an e-portfolio shell. Follow the instructions for Phase I. You are only creating the shell for this assignment.  You may go ahead and fill information in but it is not a requirement other than picture, headings and contact information.

2. Once you have created your E-portfolio shell, submit the URL on a Word document and submit via Moodle for assignment completion. If you have questions, do not hesitate to ask.

Purpose

This discussion board content is intended to facilitate learning for students through engaging dialogues as they achieve the desired learning outcomes/competencies associated with their course in a manner that empowers them to organize, integrate, apply and critically appraise their knowledge to their selected field of practice.

The ebb and flow of a discussion is based upon the composition of student and faculty interaction in the quest for relevant scholarship.

Discussions foster the development of members into a community of learners as they share ideas and inquiries, consider perspectives that may be different from their own, and integrate knowledge from other disciplines.

Assignment Requirements

Go to your state government web page. Find one health policy enacted within the last two (2) years at the state level.?Write down the bill number and the sponsors of the bill and include this information in your initial post. 

• Write a minimum of a one-page critical analysis summary of the policy. (250 words double spaced, APA). Your summary should integrate the concepts of?advocacy, population health, and the ANA ethical statements?(“The Code”), and course readings, to include a minimum of one course scholarly article (provided within the course). Be sure to speak to the role of advocacy and population health.

Respond to a minimum of two (2) peers/faculty posts with one (1) paragraph of 4-5 sentences integrating one scholarly source utilized in an in-text citation/APA.
