WHY IS THIS ASSIGNMENT IMPORTANT?

An E-Portfolio is a digital tool used to demonstrate life-long learning, skills, experiences, and interests. Businesses are using these in place of resume submissions. Just the way, professional websites offer valuable current information for the working professional, this will allow you a chance to showcase your professional skills in a digital and interesting manner.

The Health Studies program has implemented E-Portfolios as a way for each student to collect, reflect upon, build and publish a digital archive for their academic work and experiences.  This digital tool will be completed in three phases. You will complete phase I in this course. Please use the documents and powerpoints below to complete the assignment. 

WHAT I WANT YOU TO DO:

1. Use the powerpoints provided to discover how to create an e-portfolio shell. Follow the instructions for Phase I. You are only creating the shell for this assignment.  You may go ahead and fill information in but it is not a requirement other than picture, headings and contact information.

2. Once you have created your E-portfolio shell, submit the URL on a Word document and submit via Moodle for assignment completion. If you have questions, do not hesitate to ask. 

Please note: In order to access the audio in the powerpoints, your computer must have office 2013 or higher. If you do not have one of these versions on your computer, you may access it on any university computer.

You have a choice in what you may write about, but each topic requires that you use at least three different resources (one may be in the module directions page + one other that you find on your own). A paper receiving full credit will not exceed two pages, plus a work cited page in either MLA or APA format (yes, your paper will lose points if you don’t have a clear thesis, supports for your argument, and correctly formatted work cited). 

Here are your options for the short (2-page) argument essay:

1. Choose a side – either abstinence-only or comprehensive sex education and build an argument for it.

2. Choose a sexually transmitted disease and write an argument for why it should be included in sexual health education for students. Include information about this disease — is it a virus or bacteria? what are its symptoms? more common in males or females? how many diagnoses were there last year (or most recent data), and what is the treatment for it? In short, include information about this disease along with why students should learn about it.

3. Choose a topic related to gender identity and write an argument for why gender identity should be included in sexual health education for students. You might look at national data, school policies, workplace policies, health issues, an social issues – bullying or other forms of violence. Make sure you address how LBGTQ+ topics fit into a school sexual health curriculum.

*Alternatively, you may be more creative and make a “fact sheet” (something you find in a medical office, perhaps a physician would hand it to a patient following a diagnosis). Your fact sheet will be about a STD (you pick, syphilis, HPV, gonorrhea, herpes…). A fact sheet also has at least 3 sources of information that are listed under the heading, “For More Information.” The fact sheet may include images, such as a picture of a virus cell, or a chart showing rates of infection, but must also be about two pages — think front and back of a brochure.

Discussions foster the development of members into a community of learners as they share ideas and inquiries, consider perspectives that may be different from their own, and integrate knowledge from other disciplines.

Appraise ethical and legal principles to the provision of care by the Advanced Practice Nurse (CO 5, 7)

Assignment Requirements

Go to your state government web page. Find one health policy enacted within the last two (2) years at the state level.?Write down the bill number and the sponsors of the bill and include this information in your initial post. 

  • Write a minimum of a one-page critical analysis summary of the policy. (250 words double spaced, APA). Your summary should integrate the concepts of?advocacy, population health, and the ANA ethical statements?(“The Code”), and course readings, to include a minimum of one course scholarly article (provided within the course). Be sure to speak to the role of advocacy and population health.

Respond to a minimum of two (2) peers/faculty posts with one (1) paragraph of 4-5 sentences integrating one scholarly source utilized in an in-text citation/APA.
