Functional Behavior Assessment

To prepare:

• In your readings and weekly video introduction, review the different antecedents and consequent conditions that influence behavior.
• Review the target behavior you defined three weeks ago and used for the last two weeks’ Assignments. Focus on antecedent influences and consequent control of that behavior.

Watch the video of a child exhibiting a target behavior located in this week’s Learning Resources. Conduct a new observation, focusing on antecedents and consequences using the ABC Observation Form. Review the information provided by the parent and teacher on the FAIR-P and FAIR-TR forms.

Then, do the following:

• Restate the target behavior as defined in the Assignments from Weeks 2–4.
• Using the data collected in Week 4, the data you collected in the ABC observation, and the information provided in the parent and teacher interview forms, formulate a hypothesis as to the function of the child’s behavior.
• Write a one-page paper supporting the function you identified. Make sure that you give specifics as to the rationale for determining the function.
