Cultural Analysis of Toy or Tool

Choose one toy or non-industrial tool that you do NOT have expertise or experience in using. Develop a 250- to 500-word, double-spaced analysis of the gendered aspects of that toy or a non-industrial tool, applying ideas from at least two of our readings about gender and technology (Sex/Machine by Patrick D. Hopkins.

Your paper should cite at least two texts from the gender and technology section of the syllabus. Your short analysis should

1. describe the toy/tool and explain its function, delineating how it is designed, produced, purchased, maintained,

and/or deployed by boys/men or girls/women

2. hypothesize the cultural ideas concerning masculinity or femininity that are encoded in the development or use of the object

3. provide evidence from the readings for your hypothesis
