WEEK 12 PROGRAMS DISCUSSION

There is a long history in the court systems of female juveniles being treated differently than their male counterparts. This discussion will examine the differences between girls and boys in the juvenile justice process. Additionally, we will examine the gender-specific services offered for girls in the juvenile court system.

Using your textbook, the school’s library, and the Internet, please research these three topics, then respond to all of the following prompts:

1. What programs are offered that are specific to the needs of at-risk girls and high-risk girls?
2. What types of adjudications for juveniles are female-specific? Why?
3. Compare and contrast the trends found in services offered for girls versus those offered for boys. Why do you think there is a gap?
