Open letter about legalizing weed
Instructions
Remember your responsibility as in essayist as you write the final draft of your letter. You should be aware of the shape of what you are writing and strive to craft a beginning, a middle and an end for your letter that help you order your thinking in the most persuasive way possible.
A good letter should offer the recipient a pleasurable reading experience, including descriptive details, logical organization and thoughtful turns of phrase. A good letter also convincingly establishes the ethos of the writer while revealing a sense of the recipient’s values, experiences and credibility.
Finally, a good letter is (usually) addressed to one person but speaks with enough inquisitiveness and energy to appeal to all of us.
A successful final draft will include:
- Clear description, including sources & citation, of an issue faced by some institution, organization or group
- Specific examples and context to help the reader understand the issue
- Sentences that show an understanding of what the recipient cares about and values (the recipients ethos)
- An engaging ethos that offers, in the end, a new perspective on the issue and helps the recipient (and the reader) consider the issue more deeply
Length: 4 – 6 pages, double-spaced
MLA: At least 4 sources with a Works Cited page
