For instance, what was life like in the mill village? How was the community structured? What kinds of institutions (church, school, stores) were there and how did they operate to the owner’s advantage as a type of labor control? What were the houses like to live in for the workers? How did some workers seek to resist total control by the owners over their homes and communal lives?
