Question Conduct a hypothetical interview by identifying a person from a… Conduct a hypothetical interview by identifying a person from a culture different (Asian American, Hispanic American, or European American preferably) than your own preferably with an illness or chronic condition. The illness needs to be such that it impacts the person’s life or has impacted their life. Please keep in mind that the person with an acute illness may be under too much stress to answer questions. You will use eight questions as defined by Arthur Kleinman to shape your interview and consider how you would respond if you were faced with this situation. Be cognizant that you are incorporating therapeutic communication techniques throughout the interview. Once you choose your subject (anonymous hypothetical person with specific culture ) you would like to interview, maintains the subject as anonymous as possible. Ask the hypothetical person which cultural group he or she identifies with-it. Prepare by reading about that culture so you will be ready for the interview so you will be familiar with what is known about the cultural values of the group. You will need to show evidence in your paper about what you learned prior to the interview and you can compare and contrast what you learned. You may also wish to inquire about some of these things to the interviewee if you both feel comfortable. Complete the interview and submit the typed paper in APA format. A minimum of two references must be used. Eight Simple Questions by Arthur Kleinman The Kleinman questions, developed out of medical anthropology research, are designed to elicit health beliefs and expectations, or concerns, about the illness and treatment. You should be familiar with these questions before conducting the interview. Using the eight simple questions provided by Arthur Kleinman, you should be able to individualize care and understand the person you are caring for. You will interview the person concerning the health problem that he or she considers the most significant. Arthur Kleinman’s eight questions for eliciting the person’s explanatory model (EM) of his or her illness are as follows: 1. What do you call the problem? 2. What do you think has caused the problem? 3. Why do you think it started when it did? 4. What do you think the sickness does? How does it work? 5. How severe is the sickness? Will it have a short or long course? 6. What kind of treatment do you think you should receive? What are the most important results you hope to receive from this treatment? (include any treatments they have tried or not tried due to cultural practices).7. What are the chief problems the sickness has caused? 8. What do you fear most about the sickness?
