In the 1990’s, programs designed to build “superbabies” have attracted popular attention. Proponents of these programs typically claim that early stimulation and instruction will greatly facilitate an infant’s development and increase intelligence by taking advantage of early learning abilities.

Both the textbook and the lecture have indicated that infants who are deprived of specific types of stimulation during critical or sensitive periods may not develop normally. Obviously, environmental input can affect development. Your textbook also discusses the concept that babies are genetically predisposed to learn certain things at certain times.

Based on what you have learned from the textbook and commentary, post your opinion on whether you believe efforts to produce “superbabies” are appropriate, and whether these programs have any probability of success.
