Scenario #2:

SUBJECT: Late Assignments

I am one of your students. We are nearing the end of week 2 and I have not yet week 1 assignments or work. Nor have I started on the lesson for week 2.

Although I know it seems as though I have blown off the class, I assure you that is not the case. There have been mitigating factors in the past two weeks.

I work a full shift tomorrow (actually today, Friday) but am off on Saturday and Sunday. With your okay I know I can be caught up by end of day on Sunday. I would need authorization from you to access week one’s assignments. I understand that, even if you grant permission, I would incur deductions for completing my work late.

If you do not grant authorization, I do not believe I will be able to pass the course. I’ve tried to run the numbers but I a bit unsure of where I would stand grade-wise. Because I would not be able to continue the program without at least a “C” in this course, I would request a drop for this class with the ability to continue with the next cohort. So, of course I have my fingers crossed for your authorization to get caught up this weekend.

Please let me know at your earliest convenience. I will not be able to check your response until I get home from work at this time tomorrow.
