engl3003w A4

This week, you will write a report. A report has a different purpose, which is to communicate information in a clear, concise manner. While some reports include recommendations and thus do persuade to some extent, they are primarily informational. The root meaning of “report” is “to carry back.” You have information, and you are carrying it back to interested co-workers. The art of writing a good report lies in recognizing pertinent information and presenting it well.

Here is this week’s challenge:

____ Read pp. 190-202 in the .pdf “The Report That Changes Things” included in this folder. Note the emphasis the author places on knowing one’s audience and tailoring the report to that audience.

There are many reasons one might be called upon to write a business report. Note the common types of reports and the sections they might include.

____ Write a progress, trip, investigative or trouble report. We’ll skip expense reports (which don’t involve much writing) and annual reports (which are quite long) for now. Give your imagination free rein when devising a situation that necessitates a report.

– Include a table of contents in your report plus the five sections listed on page 193: executive summary, introduction, text, conclusion and recommendation.

– Format the table of contents and the report in general with the end of enhancing clarity.

– You do not need to include back material or a cover page.

Recommended length. I’ll leave this to your discretion, but this is one of the longer pieces you will produce this semester. It should be a minimum of 3 pages, including the table of contents.

Does Technology Invade Our Privacy

This is the second of two (2) position papers based on the following scenario to be completed in this course.
Imagine that you are running for a state office (e.g., governor, senator, or representative) and you have to prepare a position paper for a debate on controversial issues in the news. (Select one (1) of the topics addressed in Weeks 5-9 of this class.) You will want your position paper to demonstrate critical thinking, sound logic, valid claims, personal passion, and credible support that is cited correctly because the paper will be provided to the news media before the debate and will be scrutinized by the media and reported on regarding these criteria. Your professor will serve as your close advisor whose job is to review the paper and provide feedback to you on the paper’s strengths and weaknesses.

Write a two to three (2-3) page (700 to 1,200 words) paper in which you:

  1. Introduce your position using a thesis statement in the first paragraph, including a quote, question, or statistic from your reliable sources and an overview of the main points you will cover. (It’s important to grab the audience’s interest and inform them of what the main and support points are.)
  2. Provide three or four (3-4) major points to support your thesis statement. (Put each major point in a separate paragraph.)
  3. Provide one (1) paragraph in which you identify and answer an expected argument against your view.
  4. Organized arguments and support for claims effectively.
  5. Demonstrate personal passion for your position and critical thinking with persuasive language, sound logic, valid claims, and credible support for the claims.
  6. Provide two to three (2-3) credible and reliable references (in addition to the text) about current events, which have been published in the last five (5) years and are cited correctly in the position paper. (Wikipedia is not an acceptable source.)

Your assignment must follow these formatting requirements:

  • Be typed, double spaced, using Times New Roman font (size 12), with one-inch margins on all sides; citations and references must follow APA. Check with your professor for any additional instructions.
  • Include a cover page containing the title of the assignment, the student’s name, the professor’s name, the course title, and the date. The cover page and the reference page are not included in the required assignment page length.

The specific course learning outcomes associated with this assignment are:

  • Apply critical thinking skills to the analysis of issues involving mass media and society.
  • Use technology and information resources to research issues in media and society.
  • Write clearly and concisely about media and society using proper writing mechanics.
  • Note: Depending on the student’s topic selection, the outcome measured might include one of the following:
  • Evaluate the appropriateness of various media forms for different audiences.
  • Analyze selected legal issues and policy regulations pertaining to the media.
  • Determine how new forms of technology impact first amendment rights
  • Analyze various issues affecting the media business.
  • Evaluate the effects of new forms of media (e.g., online services) on social interactions.
  • Evaluate the effects of the digital information expansion / explosion on society.

Yoga.Fit segmentation marketing

You must have a minimum of TWO segments for Yoga.Fit

Your analysis should include:

1. A narrative description of each of the segments. You are required to give each a name. For example, if I were segmenting older consumers for a pet product I might have “Empty Nesters” or “Little Old Lady Cat Lovers”. This narrative is usually a oneparagraph summary of the segment’s profile.

2. How you are segmenting the groups (demographics, psychographic, geographic or other criteria) including the characteristics of your target segments. Be VERY specific and use no less than four demographic and four psychographic variables for each of your segments.

You may use any combination of text, charts and graphs you wish to accomplish parts 1 and 2. However, be sure that it is clear what, and who, comprise your segments.

NOTE: Segmentation is discussed extensively in Module 4. Do NOT attempt this assignment until you have completed all of Module 4.

Segmentation example

NOTE: This example is written for a product called Staycation.com. It is an online vacation planner for consumers taking their vacations at home. This is a common phenomenon in the current economy.

You are required to have TWO segments. This example has four. The chart is only an example – you may set yours up differently.

Childless Couples (Young Adventurers)

The Young Adventurers group is comprised of young adult couples who are mostly just starting out on their own. Young couples are typically known to have financial hardships (even without children) for various reasons. These reasons might include young people being typically employed in entry-level positions with corresponding salaries. On top of this, some may have bills and debt from various sources such as vehicles and student loans. They may neither possess the finances nor the large amounts of vacation time from their jobs to take a conventional vacation.

Tree-Huggers (Environmentally conscious)

Single Parents (Jugglers)

Jugglers have it pretty rough. They have to balance the time between caring for their loved ones and providing for them. Throughout the year, Jugglers do not have a lot of time to bond with their children because they are essentially doing the work of two parents, even though there is only one of them. At the end of the day, Jugglers can be wound to the limit. Taking the time to connect with members of a Juggler family can be of great benefit when it comes to avoiding dysfunction. Familial bonding creates memories that show that there is more to life than the programmed rat-race existence that the Juggler family members may be used to.

Dual Parents (Tag-teamers)

Tag-teamers do not have it quite as bad as Jugglers, but that doesn’t necessarily meanthey have it easy. Some families may have started out young. That means the kind of work available for the young parents may often be blue-collar jobs (mid-level-paying jobs that do not require a college degree or any specialized training). In other families, only one of the parents may be employed, in which case the other parent also becomes one more mouth to feed in the family. While juggling the time between caring for their children and providing for them is not as big an issue in most Tag-teamer households, it is still important for family members to socialize and have fun together, especially while children are young.

Of all the target couples, Empty-Nesters probably enjoy the most freedom. This group is composed of older adults who either never had children, or no longer have children under their care. Given the proper financial resources, Empty-Nesters can pick up and leave just about any time they like. The only thing that stands in between Empty-Nesters and a

Write an Analysis and a summary. Also, Revise the final paper

Question 1: Your final analysis should be of an article that you intend to use in your final paper–and it must be of a different article than you wrote your final summary of. A good strategy here would be to analyze an article that you intend to rebut. For example, if I were doing a paper on the Flat Earth Society, I would find an article or piece from their website that explains why they believe the earth is flat, and show why their “evidence” is pseudoscience. At least 580 words. MLA formatting.

The article you analyze should be of roughly the same length and complexity of the articles you have read for this class.

Question 2:Your final summary should be of an article that you intend to use in your final paper–and it must be of a different article than you did your final analysis on. A good strategy here would be to summarize an article that gives a good background on the issue you are focused on. For example, if I were doing a paper on the Flat Earth Society, I would find an article or piece from their website that explains the history of the society, its number of members, and perhaps tells why there has been an uptick in membership in the last few years.

The article you summarize should be of roughly the same length and complexity of the articles you have read for this class.

Again, you should look at the instructions for writing a summary, the sample summary available to you, my comments on your previous summaries, and perhaps watch the video explaining how one writes a summary. Last, do look at the rubric that will be used to evaluate your analysis. At least 500 words. MLA formatting.

Question 3: My prof gives me feedback,”This would not be a passing paper primarily because, as it is written there are a number of paragraphs filled with specific information that has no source offered to explain where that information was found.
The works cited in here is very confusing. Your paper cites sources not listed on your works cited page, and your works cited page lists sources not mention anywhere in the book. The sources used i the paper should match exactly the ones mentioned on the works cited page.” Please revise this assignment carefully. Thank you:)

Developing and Managing Multicultural Teams

As the diversity manager of a global company, you have developed a deep appreciation for the importance of understanding multi-cultural teams in the workplace. However, you know that some of the managers struggle with developing and managing multicultural teams in your company. There seems to be a need for company-wide information and training on the topic of “Developing and Managing Multi-Cultural Teams.”

You decide to prepare a training handout for the next managers’ meeting, that emphasizes the following points:

  • Dimensions of a multi-cultural team
  • Discrimination laws and their impact on managing a multi-cultural team
  • Affirmative action programs and their impact on managing a multi-cultural team
  • Building an inclusive culture within the team
  • Challenges of managing a multi-cultural team
  • Recommendations for improving communications within a multi-cultural team
  • Modeling and leading diversity acceptance and change

Prepare a six to eight-page Word document as a training handout for managers, addressing each of the points listed. Include an executive summary and conclude by summarizing your handout by describing three important concepts you learned while researching this topic.

Use at least three resources in addition to your textbook to justify your responses. Apply current APA standards for writing style to your work.

Explain and evaluate John Stuart Mill’s arguement from the article posted below. (Liberty of Thought and Discussion)

According to John Stuart Mill, “If all mankind minus one were of one opinion, mankind would be no more justified in silencing that one opinion than he, if he had the power, would be justified in silencing mankind.” (In the article “Liberty of Thought and Discussion) Explain and evaluate Mill’s argument for this claim.

This needs to be approximately 1,000 word essay. Be sure to NOT use material from other sources without citing them. Doing so is cheating and grounds for a 0.

Write the essay as if you are writing to a friend who missed class on the day this was discussed. There is no bibliography or works cited page required. You may write in first person or even write the essay as if it were a letter to your “friend” from class.

Basically in the first part of the essay give Mill’s 4 arguments showing that you understand them, then in the middle discuss the opposing point of view (strengths & weaknesses/pros and cons of arguments), then lastly give your point of view and why. Give examples from personal life or society (movies, books, friends, etc.)
