Research Paper, English 120

I have a small research paper, its 5 pages ( 2 pages screenshots, 2 pages writing, and one work consulted page). It is pretty easy once you read the requirements. And it is WORK CONSULTED PAGE, not work cited.

1. For this assignment, research two of the experts listed below who are in the Discovery Channel program to determine his/her credibility in his/her field, and post your findings here BEFORE you view the programs. The main purpose of the assignment is to discover and document your steps in determining how websites are or are not credible. Check at least 5 websites for each person when doing your research. Please prepare a Works Consulted page in proper MLA 8 format. Please see the attached for more detailed instructions. If you quote from any of your sources in your report, please prepare a Works Cited page and use proper intent citations.

More detailed directions:

Discovery Channel Program Exercise in Support and Credibility of Experts by Googling — minimum 5 pages of writing (approx. 1250 words) for each person you research

How can you tell which online information comes from reliable authorities? Anytime you use someone else’s words or ideas in your writing or formal speaking you should be aware who that person is; you can start now investigating the reliability of any sources you are thinking of quoting or paraphrasing.

We like to think that if information is in print, it is reliable. Unfortunately, that is not always the case. People with unjust biases and even those who want to sow hatred find their way into print. In general, works that appear in print go through a much more extensive vetting process than what appears online, but there are so-called vanity presses that will publish pretty much anything if the author will pay the cost. There are also all sorts of periodicals that express slanted—and often conflicting—points of view, some of them offensive to many of us. That’s what comes of freedom of the press.

When you go online, how can you start to weed through a list of results to find reliable authorities? For one thing, you can learn to “read” the list of results you get from Google or other search engines.

Please document the following by taking screen shots and explaining in prose as you work through your research in order to discover the possible credibility of two of the experts from the list. Please number each part of your assignment.

  1. Choose two:

Dr. Robert Folk, a geologist

Dr. Monica Grady, a meteorite specialist

Dr. Michael Persinger, neurologist and geologist

Dr. Joe Nickell, a paranormal investigator

Dr. David M. Jacobs, an historian

Dr. Jack Cohen, a reproductive biologist

Garry Wood, an ambulance driver in Edinburgh, Scotland

  1. Take a screen shot of the list of links that appear. Be sure to post this and all other screen shots in your paper. Before you click on a link, examine the first ten to fifteen entries in the resulting list. Yes, you may use Wikipedia as one source for this assignment. Look at each URL and see what you can learn from it. Also notice any other information that might affect your opinion of the source’s reliability or objectivity.
  • Are there sources that you immediately trust as reliable? Which ones, and why?
  • Are there any that you immediately assume will present a biased perspective? Which ones, and why?
  • Are there any that are completely unfamiliar to you? If so, choose two or three and speculate what type of source each might be.
  1. Now click on a couple of the sources that you trusted as being reliable. Identify exactly who wrote the document that you have accessed. If you cannot find an author, what does that suggest? If there is an author, search that person’s name and see if you find convincing credentials that support the assumption that he or she is qualified to write on the subject at hand.
  2. Do the same with at least two sources that you predicted would be biased. Does further investigation support your assumption?
  3. Go to at least one of the sources that were unfamiliar to you. Once you look more closely at the source, do you find any evidence of its reliability or lack thereof? Explain.
  4. Based on your research, do you think the expert is credible in his/her field? Give at least two examples why.

4 Forum Posts law and international relations: 1 350 words, 2 250 words and 1 500 words.

Forum Post 1 350 words topic: History of Peacekeeping 1988-present

Individuals can have a tremendous impact on events, including limiting atrocities. We’ve seen how Lakhdar Brahimi’s guidance of the Panel on United Nations Peacekeeping Operations impacted its final report. In this forum, please select one person who has been important in UN peacekeeping efforts, and discuss how he or she influenced a particular operation or overall peacekeeping policy especially as it concerns genocide.

I look forward to reading your posts and providing feedback on the discussions! I may ask follow-up questions after you have presented the initial post, so please revisit your original thread before the week ends.

Forum Post 2 250 words (Bluebook Format) topic: Legal Research and Writing

This week, we will engage in a mock debate over a very controversial subject matter modeled on the type of question that you may encounter if you participated in a debate competition.

Resolved: The United States should adopt the so-called Nordic model in its treatment of prostitution. According to the so-called Nordic model, the buyers of sex face criminal prosecution, while the sellers of sex do not face criminal prosecution.

To spark a lively debate, students whose last names begin with A to I should defend the above resolution, while the remaining students should oppose the resolutions. Students should stay in character throughout the week. Please limit your arguments to legal arguments and base your legal arguments upon research from “reliable sources” of information.

This will be to oppose the resolution.

Forum Post 3 500 words (Bluebook format) topic: Legal ethics

Please find the rules relating to reporting attorney misconduct in your state.

Provide proper citation to the rules, summarize the process, to include to whom the misconduct is reported, how discipline is handled and any related appellate procedures.

Finally, find an example of when these rules have been violated in your state – most Bars have a list of attorneys that have been found guilty of misconduct and what their “sentence” is.

Use the state of Utah.

Forum Post 4 250 words (bluebook format) topic: Paralegal studies

In your Civil Litigation course you studied all that is involved in the complicated and “drawn-out” process of civil litigation. You explored the role of the paralegal in this process which can include everything from gathering information to preparing and organizing materials for trial.

Alternatives to litigation that are usually less costly and more expedient are mediation and alternative dispute resolution (ADR).

Please use the textbooks and resources from your past courses to answer and discuss the questions below. Also, please review the ADR website at this link http://www.adr.org/

The Cornell Law website also presents a nice overview of ADR at this link http://www.law.cornell.edu/wex/alternative_dispute_resolution

Please answer and discuss the following:

1. Please define arbitration and mediation. What are the key differences between the two?

2. Why would a party rather use ADR than traditional litigation?

3. What is the alternative argument? What are some reasons a party would choose to litigate rather than use ADR?

4. What is the role of a Paralegal or Legal Assistant in the ADR process or in working for mediators or arbitrators?

Please discuss fully and follow the directions you have already been given for discussion forum participation.

News Reflection Paper, psychology homework help

In this assignment you will explore printed media and discover new scientific data and see how that data is being used and interpreted. It will be easier to analyze and give your views on the article and related issues, if you become a critical reader. Decide if the information presented in the article is biased. Is the author trying to persuade you to agree with his point of view? Look at the people involved in the article, the writer, the researcher, the people funding the research -are they influencing how the research data is being presented? What are the values and beliefs of these people? Look at how new scientific data is collected and how it is used and developed within our society.

The Process:

1. Locate and read a recent article from a newspaper, magazine or the Internet. The article should have been written in 2016 and should relate to a science topic covered in psychology. Some places you might want to look for articles include:

· The Washington Post
· Science News Magazine
· The New York Times
· Time Magazine
· Discover
· The Washington Times
· Scientific American

Theses sources may be found in the library or on the Internet. You do not need a copy of the article to turn in with your review; however you will need to properly reference the article, as you would in a bibliography.

2. Summarize the information contained in the article. The summary should be 2-3 paragraphs in length and should include the basic facts given in the article. The summary should be about one half of the total length of the paper.

3. Give your views about the article. Your views will be unique, they will not be right or wrong. Your reaction to the article should be supported with thoughtful reasoning and explanations. Here are some points you might want to consider, they might not relate to all of the article you choose.

· Is the article related to topics covered in class?
· Is the article biased in any way? Is the author trying to convince the reader to agree with him/her?
· Do your personal beliefs influence they way this information should be used?
· Will this information affect you personally or someone in your family?
· Who is going to benefit from research in your article? Will all people have equal access to this information? Will this new discovery benefit many people or just a few?
· Who is going to benefit economically from this research?
· If a new technology is developed, will new laws need to be made to protect citizens?

4. The total length of the paper should be one or two pages typed, doubled spaced.

5. Credit the Author! Use a reference citation for the article just like one in a bibliography. The web address alone is not a proper citation!

· Example:

Author (date of publication) Title of the Article, Source. Volume, page number.

Jones, K., & Day, J. D. (1997) Discrimination of Two Aspects of Cognitive-Social Intelligence from Academic Intelligence, Journal of Educational Psychology. 89, 486-497

· If you find an article online this is how you would cite the author:

Benton Foundation (1998). Losing ground bit by bit: Low-income communities in the information age [Electronic version]. Retrieved June 27, 2001, from http://www.benton.org/Library/Low-Income/two.html

3 page paper

MAKE SURE TO READ THESE INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY

An important aspect of philosophical thinking is the ability to do conceptual analysis. Greta Christin‘s paper is a great example of this. Throughout her paper, she proposes a definition of sex, discusses how that definition captures several cases that intuitively count as sex, but then discusses some more complicated cases that either show that the definition is too broad (i.e., it includes or counts some case as an instance of sex when intuitively it should not) or too narrow (i.e., it excludes some case from counting as an instance of sex when we intuitively think it should count).

This paper assignment is divided into two parts.

Part one:

Expand on one of Greta Christina’s several different definitions of sex and explain how that definition is problematic. For example, Christina says, “Perhaps having sex with someone is the conscious, consenting, mutually acknowledged pursuit of shared sexual pleasure.” You might explain this definition (or one of the other ones that she considers) by giving a (fictional) example and showing how it exemplifies each of the features listed in the definition. Then, you should explain why that definition is problematic. For example, you could explain how there are cases that we intuitively count (or don’t count) as sex but aren’t (or are) counted as sex according to the definition (i.e., state whether the definition is too broad or too narrow, or both, and show how).

Part Two

Propose your own definition — a definition of sex that Christina does not consider. Show how that definition might handle some of the complicated cases that she discusses. Then, clearly state what the shortcomings of your proposed definition might be. For example, you should clearly state how the definition could be too broad or too narrow (or both) by presenting relevant counterexamples.

No copy accept! good organization with my paper! remember to read the article before you write the essay !!!

3-4 mins speech for the US history constitution class

My US history class has a speech to do. The class is about constitution before 1877. Everyone has a role for giving speech on some issues for NY ratification. My role is an anti-federalist. I need to speak about the ”the right of recall” of the delegate or state representatives. Write a speech about “recall” in the view of an anti-federalist. The view of Anti-federalists on “recall” must be addressed.

Recall, , serves somewhat the same purpose as rotation, but is punitive in its design and
execution. Likely recall will rarely be exercised, since the mere threat of the same should suffice to
prevent representatives from forgetting who their real masters are. Antifederalists put great store by
this power, which applies especially to upper-house senators, since their terms are so much longer
than lower-house representatives. Recommended sources are:

NYC speeches by John Lansing, June 24, Debates, pp. 294-95, 299-300, 308
NYC speech by Melancton Smith, June 25, Debates, pp. 311-15
“Federal Farmer,” XI, CA-F (2.8.147)

Surprise Argument:

The Federalist Virginia Plan presented to the Constitutional Convention included a recall (and
rotation) provision in its 4th resolution. Use again as a debating point, the purpose of which is to
embarrass. See:

Notes, May 29, p. 31

I will upload the instruction of the role. I need to do issue 6 – recall. please write the speech in the view of an anti-federalist in the convention. We are having a debate between federalists and anti federalist. The goal is to convince moderate to vote for us(anti-federalist) in the convention
