Annotated Bibliography

Read the instructions for the final paper to determine the kinds of articles you will need to use as references. Also read the Example Research Proposal provided in the course materials to help you visualize your final paper. Search the Ashford University Library’s databases and the Research Methods research guide to find appropriate peer-reviewed sources for your proposal. Read the selected articles and reread relevant sections of the textbook and the full text of the study you have been working with throughout the course. Using the Sample Annotated Bibliography information and example from the Writing Center as a guide, create an annotated bibliography of the sources you will use in your final research proposal.

The references in the annotated bibliography must be listed in alphabetical order, formatted in APA style, and published within the past 10 years. All selected sources other than the textbook must be available in full text in the Ashford University Library. After each reference, insert two paragraphs. The first paragraph should summarize the main points of the source, in your own words. Do not use any quotations or verbatim wording from the source for this assignment. In the second paragraph, explain how you will use the source to support your research proposal.

For this assignment, a title page in APA format is required but it is not necessary to include a separate reference page, because the paper itself is the reference page with additional information inserted. If you do include a separate page of references, be aware that it will not be counted towards the required page count. Your paper must be a minimum of four pages (excluding title page) and formatted according to APA style as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center.

Unit 6 Discussion Topic 1

Banquets

Banquets differ from ordering from the menu and are popular in restaurants as well as in hotels and special event facilities.

Checklist:

• Discuss the advantages of offering banquet service in a restaurant.
• What are the primary differences between banquet and catered food events?
• Identify and list the cost for labor associated with a small event.
• Describe the steps a manager should take for ensuring a successful banquet event.

Unit 6 Discussion Topic 2

A Catered Event

Catering is usually an off-site event that can generate significant revenue for operations that handle it properly. It requires attention to detail and considerable planning.

• Discuss the two primary catering markets and how they differ.
• Determine the steps to take before the event activities begin.
• Discuss the activities cooks and servers need to do differently when preparing for delivering, and cleaning up after a catered event.

Essay 2 is due this week. Write a 500-750 word essay on one of the following topics.

1. Review Mary Rowlandson’s narrative as a faith narrative instead of a capture narrative. If instead of viewing the work as an attempt to tell the true story of a capture, it is read as a reaffirmation of faith in God, how does that change the meaning?

2. Discuss the idea of the Reliable Narrator in one of the authors read up until this point. Use specific examples from outside sources and the text to show why it should or should not be believed that this author is reliable.

3. Think about this rather surprising statement: It has been suggested that Olaudah Equiano may not have been born in Africa, but in South Carolina. If this were true, does his birthplace change the way we read and evaluate this memoir? Does this possibility affect its viability or reliability as a source on slavery and the slave trade?

4. Compare or contrast two individuals from weeks one through four who best illuminate important themes of America during the time period covered. Define the themes you’ll write about, and then discuss what precisely in the writing defines those themes. Discuss these themes as they relate to current day approach or understanding.

Your essay should be formatted in MLA style, including double spacing throughout. All sources should be properly cited both in the text and on a works cited page. As with most academic writing, this essay should be written in third person. Please avoid both first person (I, we, our, etc.) and second person (you, your).

Refer back to the movie you selected and watched or the case study you read during Topic 1. Consider the character you selected or the person from the case study and complete a biopsychosocial assessment about your selected person using the provided biopsychosocial template. Only complete Part 1 of the template, as Part 2 will be completed later in the course.

While APA style is not required for the body of this assignment, solid academic writing is expected, and documentation of sources should be presented using APA formatting guidelines, which can be found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center.
