a) Each student must conduct a search, online or through library resources, and select one Social/Sociological Theory.
b) Once you have chosen your theory, you must review the theories already posted by your classmates, to ensure that ‘your’ theory has not already been chosen. ( When you choose the theory please send me first to check)
*Tip: It might be helpful for you to post the name of the theory first, and quickly, in order to reserve it, so to speak. Then when you are ready you can edit your post to include your answers to the questions posed (deadlines still apply). Please note that simply posting your title alone will not give you any points. It is simply to save it from being taken.
***Every theory can only be used once. Any duplicate posts of a theory will receive zero (0) Participation Points.
c) After you have determined that no one has already chosen ‘your’ theory, you must post your response to this forum, and it must include answers to all the following questions – your answers must all use complete sentences AND must include the question numbers with your answers:
i) What is the name of your Social/Sociological theory?
**Please note that if you are interested in Feminist AND Structural theories, each of them is an umbrella theory, made up of a collection of theories.
Therefore, you must select only one type of Feminist theory OR only one type of Structural theory, for this assignment, if that is what interests you. You will receive a zero (0) score if you write your response on feminist theories generally, or structural theories generally.
ii) Who proposed/formulated the theory?
iii) Historical Location – On which date, or during which time period, was the theory proposed/formulated?
iv) Epistemology – describe the study or experiment or research that was conducted to gather the empirical evidence to support the theory?
v) Ontology – write down two (2) sepcific and different assumptions upon which the theory is based?
vi) Prescription – describe the social phenomenon or behavior the theory was originally proposed/formulated to describe or explain?
***Remember All answers must be numbered, and written in complete sentences (up to 2 points will be deducted otherwise) .
Part II You must comment on two (2) of your classmates’ responses. Please note that your comments will need to be substantive and thoughtful – ‘that is a great or interesting theory’ is not a thoughtful or substantive comment, and is unacceptable.
