Assignment 2: RA 2: Interview with Local Community Health Care Administrator

Task:

Community-oriented nurses must apply policy in their communities. This assignment is designed to help you understand how nurses can work with political leaders to support health initiatives in the community. In this assignment, you will locate and interview a local health care administrator.

Directions:

Interview your identified health care official or administrator. You will receive 3 hours towards your 15 hours of clinical experience for this activity. You must accurately record your hours and activity in your clinical log found in the syllabus.

During your interview, make sure you gather enough information to completely discuss the items needed in the final report. Use the six items below to create the questions you want to ask during the interview. Your final report of 3–5 pages should synthesize the information from the interview and use at least 4 peer-reviewed articles to address the following:

• Identify at least one health promotion initiative, explain its impact on the organization’s services, and describe the role of the health care official in that initiative.
• Discuss the purpose of the health initiative and its intended outcomes for individuals, families, and the community. Analyze the benefits of the intended outcomes on individuals, families, and the broader community.
• Assess the political process the health care official or administrator applied to influence and garner resources for the community health initiative.
• Identify one legal and one ethical issue related to the health care official or administrator’s role in advocating for social and individual/community health issues.
• Describe two strategies that the health care official or administrator uses to engage in new community health initiatives. Explain the strengths and weaknesses of each strategy as it relates to its use in the community health initiatives.
• Explain how you can integrate the information you learned from the interview into the role of the nurse in community health.

The Feature Story assignment is a series of three deadlines. .

For this deadline, please select three different story ideas that interest you and are related to Grossmont College (or your current school) and its students. Note: This is left intentionally open so that you can choose from a wide variety of topics, but be sure to choose an issue that will allow you to talk to local sources.

Each story idea needs to be a paragraph that describes the gist of the story and why your school’s students need to know about it. Please select a topic that is interesting to you because that will make the assignment more fun to report and write. Rank the ideas in order from favorite to least favorite.

You are a consultant in a children’s ward for a long-term care hospital facility geared towards ages 3 to 10 years old. The facility directors ask you to construct an indoor/outdoor play center and activity schedule to allow those in early and middle childhood to maintain and develop their cognitive, physical, social, and emotional growth while recovering from their injuries/illnesses.

Justify for the facility’s stakeholders the use and placement for each piece of play equipment, toy, and furniture. Make it clear when and why you would need to divide some of the space to separate children in early childhood from those in middle childhood. Be sure to specify:

1. How does each piece of play equipment, toy, and furniture contribute to the four types of development (e.g., fine-motor movement helps physical growth)?
2. How does each piece facilitate social-emotional bonds of children with their families?
3. How does each piece improve coping and adjustment to long-term care?

Paper Requirements:

• Your paper should be seven- to nine-pages (not including the required title or reference pages) and double spaced.
• The paper should be based on references to scholarly materials (rather than on introductory textbooks, popular website writings, or musings, for example). To that, your paper should synthesize current, relevant research on your topic from at least five scholarly sources. Cite and reference these sources according to APA style.
• Include an introduction that provides a clear statement of your position on the topic, a body that discusses the implications of possible solutions for the project under consideration, and a conclusion regarding how best to manage the issue (i.e., your informed opinion on the issues raised).
• Format your entire paper according to APA guidelines.

The paper must demonstrate what you have learned about current issues related to human development. Your paper is expected to have depth and offer a thoughtful analysis on the topic. The most common mistakes in writing an essay are (a) simply summarizing the topic and not analyzing it or discussing your views and (b) failing to relate the subject to the broader context of restorative justice, as discussed in class and as found in the readings.

Adequately including the broader contexts includes, for example, considering how your research might yield a different approach to restorative justice in the United States.

Each unit will require you to make a journal entry related to the unit topic. We will cover 7
units in all. The journal entry will explore your attitudes, opinions, and beliefs about
health. You are to turn in a journal entry for each unit.
Journal entries require thoughtful reflection on your personal health. You will also be
evaluated on the quality of content. When appropriate, journal entries may require you to
discuss ideas and support them by scientific data and references. Your journal entry should
include discussion of the content in the unit the stood out to you the most, your feelings
and opinions on the topic, and how the information you learned will influence you going
forward. Also, it should include any other reflective thoughts you may have on the unit.
These journal entries should be organized by unit and submitted in one Word document
file. Each journal entry should be 450 to 500 words in length.

All papers will be analyzed by special software (Safe-Assign) to check for plagiarism.
Any papers that are plagiarized will be given a zero.
