Assignment 3: Healthcare Quality
Due Week 6 and worth 200 points

Assume that you are a Quality Officer who is responsible for one of the state’s largest healthcare organizations. You have been told that the quality of patient care has decreased, and you have been assigned a project that is geared toward increasing quality of care for the patients. Your Chief Executive Officer has requested a six to eight-page summary of your recommended initiatives.

Note: You may create and /or make all necessary assumptions needed for the completion of this assignment.

Write a 6-8 page paper in which you:

1. Analyze three (3) quality initiatives for your organization.
2. Determine the supporting factors that would aid in the reduction of healthcare cost in your organization without reducing quality of care for the patients.
3. Differentiate between quality in a free market healthcare system and in single payer government system with three (3) examples for each.
4. Specify three (3) common law quality initiatives that are still found in 21st century healthcare organizations.
5. Defend your position on the importance of healthcare quality for your organization. Provide support with at least three (3) examples that illustrate your position.
6. Assemble a plan to protect patient information that complies with all legal requirements.
7. Use at least three (3) quality references. Note: Wikipedia and other Websites do not qualify as academic resources.

Your assignment must follow these formatting requirements:

• Be typed, double spaced, using Times New Roman font (size 12), with one-inch margins on all sides; citations and references must follow APA or school-specific format. Check with your professor for any additional instructions.
• Include a cover page containing the title of the assignment, the student’s name, the professor’s name, the course title, and the date. The cover page and the reference page are not included in the required assignment page length.

The purpose of this assignment is to learn about the psychological approach (e.g., motivation, philosophy, team cohesion, leadership strategies, communication, and/or use of mental preparation) used by an established coach, so that you can learn from that person and examine their real life answers in relation to the material being discussed in class.

1. Steps to Follow in Completing the Assignment:

• Design your interview guide, which includes specific questions you will ask your coach about their psychological approaches to coaching (how they do it, what they believe, how they put their philosophy into practice, how they think motivation works with their athletes, how they mentally prepare, etc.). Your questions should reflect your understanding of the class topics and readings. Spend some time on this, and work through several drafts. THIS IS A VERY IMPORTANT STEP, AND THE QUALITY OF YOUR QUESTIONS WILL BE EVALUATED AND WILL DIRECTLY CONTRIBUTE TO THE QUALITY OF INFORMATION GAINED.

TIP: Use open-ended questions. Ask “Describe the ways you think a coach may motivate his/her athletes.” instead of “Do you believe coaches can motivate athletes?”

1. Set up your interview guide/questions so that you can easily follow it when talking with your coach.

1. Contact a coach you would like to interview and ask if they would be willing to talk with you about the psychology of coaching for approximately 40-60 minutes. Do not interview someone you are related to – a former coach is OK.

1. Arrange a time and place to meet for the interview (at the coach’s convenience).

1. Take a few notes during and immediately after the interview. Record your interview (using your phone – many apps are available) so that extensive note taking is not necessary when talking with your coach.

1. Analyze the coach’s responses in relation to course material. That is, how do the coach’s responses adhere to or differ from the course material in your readings and discussed in class? What did you learn, and/or what insights did you gain?

1. Write up your analysis using the following format:

• Provide an anonymous case description of your coach (e.g., high school junior varsity head coach in football). Do not name who you interviewed.

• Present your analysis in organized sections using headings to describe each section or area of analysis. You could use headings based on your interview guide/questions or you can organize your sections differently based on your results. Quality will be assessed based on your insights/analysis about your coach’s responses, and your abilities to link your interview data with course ideas and material.
• Cite relevant literature (e.g., Vealey, 2005, use some others) in analyzing the coach’s responses.
• Provide a reference list at the end of your paper (APA format).

The length of the paper should be 4 or more pages.

Reply to the posts of two classmates who chose an issue different from the one you chose, if possible, and indicate why the issue you chose will have a greater impact in the future. If it is necessary to reply to classmates that chose the same issue you did, identify ways that they could strengthen their argument. Each reply should be a minimum of 75 words. When considering ethical issues and dilemmas in business that were discussed in Business Ethics: Ethical Decision Making and Cases, and which of those listed I feel will have the greatest affect on the future, I chose corporate intelligence. Corporate intelligence is defined as “the collection and analysis of information on markets, technologies, customers, and competitors, as well as on socioeconomic and external political trends” (Ferrell, Fraedrich, & Ferrell, 2013, p. 71). Essentially, it encompasses all the information that is available today in our current society with the use of technology. This becomes an issue when information is obtained by illegal means, such as hacking. Hacking has three main methods of obtaining information. System hacking is when the person hacking has a low-level clearance to the computer system and utilizes it to obtain information. Remote hacking is when a hacker has no clearance to the system and breaks into the system and takes information. This form of attack is increasing and will likely continue to increase. Physical hacking occurs when the hacker enters the location and utilizes the organization’s own computers against them. There are many other ways that hackers obtain information they can utilize to break into computer systems, and there seems to be no end in site to this ethical issue and dilemma. A hacker’s purpose is to “gather a firms’ weaknesses, vulnerabilities, defenses, and information” (Hausken, 2017, p. 3) and share them with the public. This is detrimental to organizations, and can cause problems not only inside the organization, but outside as well.

As organizations continue to fight against hackers stealing their information, and the issue continues to expand, businesses will be required to spend more time and money to safeguard their information and consumer’s data. It will also affect how consumers feel about giving an organization their information. For example, recently, I was asked to provide some of my personal information to receive a chance to win a vacation. It was a reputable organization that was promoting it, but because I questioned how my personal information might be used, or how secure my information was, I decided not to enter my information.
