This week’s readings and lecture offered information related to lobbyists and advocates. Is there a difference between being a lobbyist and an advocate? Lobbyists provide support for policy, as do advocates, so what is the difference? Most nurses consider themselves patient advocates; however a political advocate is somewhat different. In this discussion, differentiate between a lobbyist and an advocate. Be sure to discuss a political advocate rather than a bedside advocate.

• Definition of a lobbyist.
• Definition of an advocate.
• Similarities and differences.
• Why are they both important?
• How does one of your selected organizations( The Joint Commission ) lobby or advocate for health care policy

must contain minimum of two (2) references one (1) from required course materials and one (1) from peer-reviewed references, in addition to examples from your personal experiences to augment the topic. Synthesize and summarize from your resources in order to avoid the use of direct quotes, which can often be dry and boring. No direct quotes are allowed in the discussion board post.

Discussion post-good writing involves providing an introduction and a conclusion; this includes your initial discussion posts.  Two to three sentences (for the DB only) is acceptable.  An introduction introduces what you will discuss, and a conclusion provides a brief synopsis of the content of your discussion.  Please note 0.25 points will be deducted for each missing introduction and conclusion initially.  In the event subsequent assignments do not include an introductory and concluding paragraph (two to three fully developed sentences) points will be deducted in increasing increments.

Assignment 3: GSA Wants You

Imagine you are a service-disabled veteran and made your hobby of building model airplanes into a small business that produces very small remote control aircrafts capable of long sustained flights. You are ready to reply to a U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) Schedules solicitation.

Write a six to eight (6-8) page paper in which you:

1. Describe the electronic submission process and the security measures present in this approach. Analyze the advantages over classic paper solicitations.
2. Analyze whether or not your company has as much of a chance of having its bid accepted as a much larger corporation (e.g., Boeing) does. Support your analysis.
3. Speculate on how you would negotiate during the contract award process once your solicitation is accepted.
4. Determine the value of your most favored customer or class of customers to GSA. Analyze its impact on your small business.
5. Compare and contrast the advantages of being a small company over being a lager firm (e.g., Boeing) in terms of contract administration and management.
6. Assess the different marketing methods used to market to the federal government. Select three (3) most effective methods you would use to market your product or service to the U.S. government. Provide a rationale for your selection.
7. Use at least three (3) quality resources in this assignment. Note: Wikipedia and similar Websites do not qualify as quality resources.

Your assignment must follow these formatting requirements:

• Be typed, double spaced, using Times New Roman font (size 12), with one-inch margins on all sides; citations and references must follow APA or school-specific format. Check with your professor for any additional instructions.
• Include a cover page containing the title of the assignment, the student’s name, the professor’s name, the course title, and the date. The cover page and the reference page are not included in the required assignment page length.

The specific course learning outcomes associated with this assignment are:

• Examine the Federal Supply Schedule program.
• Assess the different marketing methods used to market to the federal government. 
• Compare the support programs available to small-business contractors. 
• Use technology and information resources to research issues in contract administration and management. 
• Write clearly and concisely about contract administration and management using proper writing mechanics.

1. Introduction: Introduce your primary source. Include a brief summary or description of what
the work is about. Example: The book, Cheaper by the Dozen, is the story of an efficiencyexpert, Frank Gilbreth, and his family set in the early 20th century. You may not write aboutCheaper by the Dozen, but you can elaborate more about your own source material and the

introduction in your own proposals.)
2. Statement of Purpose (also plan of action): What connection to the class material do you see in
your primary source? Example: Throughout the book, Cheaper by the Dozen reflects theprogressive era ideas of efficiency, the use of behavioral psychology in parenting, and changingvalues associated with the “Jazz Age.” (Of course, you can elaborate—highly suggested!– asneeded in your own proposal.)
3. Conclusion: What do you hope to achieve by looking at your primary source and its connectionsto the class material.
4. Write a tentative thesis statement for your paper.

Write a 4-5 page (typed, double-spaced, 12-pt font, 1 inch margins) analytical paper connecting yourprimary source to the class material.

This journal is an opportunity for you to process and expand upon your notes from class and the textbook, or respond to any particular announced questions. By expand, I mean more than reproducing whatever I may put on the board, through the inclusion of comments made in class and your thoughts on the material after class. In particular, I am interested in those concepts or examples you find most helpful, and any questions you may have that we did not get a chance to address in class, or did address but not to your satisfaction. Finally, please connect the course material to content from your other classes, or things you have read or seen outside of school.

Minimum Requirements:

• At least 500 words of relevant material
• Correct grammar and spelling
• Submission by 11:59 PM on Tuesday of the following week. While every submission will contribute to your overall Weekly Journal grade, you may not earn more than 100% in this category.

What’s a scholarly journal article?

It is an academic peer-reviewed article that usually describes a research project/experiment. It may seem challenging at first to read such articles, but, by learning how to do so, you will be a better consumer of accurate information. While many general interest articles are based on academic research, however, it’s usually best for academic and science writing to learn how to go straight to the source of the research to really understand if the information you are reading about is accurate.

How do you find a scholarly journal article?

Remember looking for a general interest article in the PCC Nutrition LibGuideLinks to an external site.? There you were introduced to several databases that had a variety of articles about nutrition.
