Purpose of Assignment

The purpose of this assignment is to place students in the active role of a marketing manager with a problem threatening the organization’s survival. Students will respond to a specific scenario that requires them to address the concepts both critically and creatively to solve the scenario’s dilemma.

Scenario: You are the marketing manager for a local nonprofit charity whose funding is based on membership fees. You’ve noticed a severe drop in new memberships and a decline in repeat memberships, which is threatening your organization’s ability to survive and grow. You have decided to implement the Five-Step Marketing Research Process to help understand the problem and create solution strategies to implement.

Create a 15- to 20-slide (not counting the cover slide and reference slide) Microsoft^® PowerPoint^® presentation with detail speaker’s notes on the Five-Step Marketing Research Approach detailing how you will use each step to solve the membership issue the local nonprofit charity is facing. Use in text citation in the speaker notes accordingly to the references you are using. Use pictures, charts, images in your slides as well (cite pictures as needed).

Address the following in your role as marketing manager:

• Define the Five-Step Marketing Research Approach and discuss the importance of research in marketing.
• Describe each step of the Marketing Research Approach (one slide for each step) in detail including its goal, and create an example aligned to the scenario above to illustrate how that stage would be implemented toward the problem’s solution.
• Define the two types of research data this process gathers and their pros and cons. Share examples of each type that would be useful in solving the scenario.
• Compare and contrast the Five-Step Process with two alternative methods for conducting marketing research. What are the pros and cons of each?
• Define what it means to differentiate a service and provide an example to illustrate how the local nonprofit charity in the scenario can use the strategy to help increase target market interest.
• Explain how differentiation will help position the organization.

Part 2 Deliverable Length: 4,000–8,000 words,
including the deliverables from previous weeks

In previous weeks, you selected a project around which to
develop your Risk Management Strategy and Plan Key Assignment. In Week 1,
you crafted a letter to the project sponsor explaining the importance of
project risk management. You also determined the high-level steps for
conducting risk assessment and brainstormed on some of the risk categories. In
Week 2, you fully identified the individual project risks and analyzed them by
determining their likelihood and impact. In Week 3, you determined the mitigation
strategies, which might include prevention, control, or ignoring the risk.
In Week 4, you developed a project risks matrix with all of the information
that you gathered in Weeks 2 and 3, and you developed a risk monitoring and
control approach and plan.

Now you are ready to embark on adding all of the risk
management tasks to the overall project plan, as well as producing a
well-thought-out communications plan. In the final week, you will also
revise the Key Assignment draft document based on feedback from your instructor
and peers. Under the last sections, which are not filled in, you will develop a
very detailed WBS, contingency budget, and communications plan.

Gloria Hernandez is the controller of a public company. She just
completed a meeting with her superior, John Harrison, who is the CFO of
the company. Harrison tried to convince Hernandez to go along with his
proposal to combine 12 expenditures for repair and maintenance of a
plant asset into one amount ($1 million). Each of the expenditures is
less than $100,000, the cutoff point for capitalizing expenditures as an
asset and depreciating it over the useful life. Hernandez asked for
time to think about the matter. As the controller and chief accounting
officer of the company, Hernandez knows it’s her responsibility to
decide how to record the expenditures. She knows that the $1 million
amount is material to earnings and the rules in accounting require
expensing of each individual item, not capitalization. However, she is
under a great deal of pressure to go along with capitalization to boost
earnings and meet financial analysts’ earnings expectations, and provide
for a bonus to top management including herself. Her job may be at
stake, and she doesn’t want to disappoint her boss.

Assume both Hernandez and Harrison hold the CPA and CMA designations.

1. What are the loyalty obligations of both parties in this case?
2. Assume
   that you were in Gloria Hernandez’s position. What would motivate you
   to speak up and act or to stay silent? Would it make a difference if
   Harrison promised this was a one-time request?
3. What would you do and why?

The National Security Act of 1947 established the legal framework for the United States Intelligence Community (USIC), including U.S. counterintelligence. The main purpose for this framework was to create a coordinated and centralized intelligence effort for the United States. When the Act was established, the USIC was relatively small, but it continued to grow and expand not only in size but also in responsibility. Over the years, numerous commissions and political initiatives have examined the growth and expanding mission of the USIC. It is through recommendations by these commissions that the United States has sought to address its numerous shortcomings within the U.S. intelligence and counterintelligence communities. These recommendations have encompassed everything from basic restructuring to the dissolution of intelligence agencies such as the CIA.

For this assignment, you must research and review proposals for intelligence reorganization from 1947 to the present and choose the one proposal that you feel has had the biggest impact on U.S. counterintelligence operations. You must then write a research paper of 750–1,000 words specifically discussing this proposal and why you feel this it has had the greatest impact on U.S. counterintelligence. Your paper should include a summary of the proposal, the incident or event that led to the creation of the proposal, whether or not the proposal was enacted, and the impact the proposal had on the counterintelligence mission. This assignment will require additional outside research, and your paper must be supported by at least 2 scholarly references.
