Recruiting and Staff Plan

Assess the opening case study from Chapter 6: “Amazon is Hiring…Big Time!” In a three- to five-page paper (not including the title and references pages), create a recruiting and staffing strategy for Amazon, and select one position from the given list to write a recruiting and staffing plan; consider how many of these positions Amazon needs to fill. You must select from the following full-time positions: Warehouse Supervisor, Delivery Representative, and Customer Service Manager.)

Your paper must include the following:

1. Write an introduction including the selected position, a preview of your paper, and a succinct thesis statement.
2. Discuss the legal landscape, including special legal considerations that the company should be aware of.
3. Create a recruiting plan for the position selected that includes the following:
   • Explain what recruiting is and why it is important.
   • Explain the tools that will be utilized to find candidates for filling the selected position, and state why each tool was selected.
4. Create a selection plan for the position that includes the following:
   • Explain what staffing is and why it is important.
   • State what assessments will be used and why.
   • Discuss the types of interviewing techniques that will be used and why.
   • List five job-specific interview questions for the position candidates.
5. Write a conclusion paragraph that reaffirms your thesis statement.

Your paper must be formatted according to APA style as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center. It must include citations and references for the text and at least three scholarly sources, one of which must be from the Ashford University Library.

1. Describe five ritual objects used by Egyptians to help people reach the afterlife, or to make their life better once they are there. Describe the objects themselves, and how they are used.

2. What was the function of the masks that were placed on mummies? What is different about the “Fayum Portrait” as compared to the others on display? What accounts for this difference (think about the influence of other cultures on Egypt)?

3. Describe the stages in the process of mummification.

4. What are amulets, and what was their purpose? Give three specific examples.

5. How has scientific technologies helped us better understand the nature of mummies, the people who made them, and the people (i.e. the dead individuals whose bodies we study)? Discuss the use of new technologies in this area, and what they have enabled us learn (be specific with the types of facts we can learn as a result, and also how it helps us preserve mummies while still allowing us to study them).

6. Discuss how a coffin (or sarcophagus) can give us information (with specific reference to the coffin of Tenthonsu). What is communicated by this coffin? Through what process is one reborn? Describe.

7. Aside from humans, what other animals were often mummified? What was the purpose of this?

8. What gods are represented with an ibis (skinny bird) head, and with a jackel head? What was the purpose of each in Egyptian mythology?

9. What was the role of inscribed names?

10. Describe the role of votive figures in Egyptian rituals.

NOW: Once you have finished answering all of the questions, write an academic ESSAY of between 1000 words on the following topic:

When looking at mummies in a museum, we need to remember that they are the dead bodies of actual people. How do you feel about looking at them? Is the way they are displayed respectful? When are bodies “historic” enough that we disregard the sanctity of their burials? Imagine that one of these mummies was one of your close relatives. Would this change your opinion on the validity of this sort of display? Why or why not? Take a position on this argument investigating the compromise between scientific and historical value versus human dignity.

1. Texas is described as having a traditionalistic individualistic political culture. Is this true for

the entirety of Texas? Where might you find differences in political cultures within the state?

2. Consider the main purpose of the first Texas state constitution Coahuila y Tejas-1827. What function did it serve and what did it prioritize? What problem(s) led to crises and conflict with the Federal Constitution of Mexico?

3. Has the evolving relationship between the federal government and the states changed for the better or for the worse? Why?

4. Do you think there are too many local elected officials? Why or why not? Can this high

number have an effect on voter turnout during local elections? How might Texas increase

voter interest in, and information about, local elections?

5. Why do you think the writers of the Texas Constitution adopted a part-time legislature? What are the benefits to having a part-time legislature? What are the costs?

6. Do you think Texas has struck the right balance in terms of gubernatorial power? Should the governor have more power? What additional powers should the governor have?

7. Texas is unusual in that it has two high courts: one to hear civil cases and one to hear criminal

cases. Why do you think Texas has such a system? What are the consequences (good and

bad) of having two separate high courts?

8. Traffic in Texas has increased in recent years, causing significant delays and higher fuel

expenses. What are possible solutions to these issues? What are the drawbacks of those

solutions?

9. Why are interest groups so influential in Texas politics? What types of institutional reforms

could the legislature enact to reduce the influence of interest groups?

10. What is the purpose of a primary election? Why is the Republican Party primary in Texassignificant? What effect do you think this has on primary voter turnout?

11. Do any of you consistently vote for one party at the national level and another party at the

state level? Why or why not? How prevalent do you think this practice is?

• Question 1: What were the underlying causes, economic and political, of the collapse of the Mubrark regime?
• Question 2: What do you think the Egyptian government needs to do in order to get the economy growing again and to attract foreign capital? What are the risks to the government of taking such actions?

Imagine that you can create your very own city and select any works of architecture and/or artworks to fill that city. What would you choose? This is the essence of this assginment.

Describe a plan for an ideal community environment that includes selections of art and architecture from the textbook. For this assignment, you may use artworks outside of the textbook, but you must provide a link so I can ‘follow’ what you are doing. As in many existing virtual reality experiences, such as Second Life or the SIMS, you can be as creative as you like when describing your own corner of a virtual reality world. Don’t get hung up on the idea of virtual reality, however. You are simply designing your own community, in real life or not, with a particular theme. Select a theme that flows through the entire community. This theme can be a color, an idea, a way of life, sustainable materials, or even a common media (materials).

Write a 750- to 1,050-word paper summarizing your ideal community environment that includes the following:

• A description of at least one work of architecture featured in the course readings with a summary of the building’s history and style, as well as information on how it originally shaped its environment, and how you will use it to shape the ideal community environment you are creating. Include the following in your description of your selected work or works of architecture:
  • Who was the architect? What was his or her background and nationality?
  • When was the building created?
  • Where is it located?
  • What is the building’s original purpose?
• A description of at least one sculpture that continues the theme or mood set by your selected work(s) of architecture. How does your sculpture amplify the message that your selected architectural work communicates to onlookers? Include the following in your description of your selected work or works of sculpture:
  • Who was the sculptor? What was her or his background and nationality?
  • When was the sculpture originally created?
  • Where was the original location of the sculpture?
  • For what purpose was the sculpture originally created?
• A selection of four to five drawings and paintings from the text that you will place in your selected work of architecture. Describe how they complement the mood or theme of your ideal community environment, and include responses to the following:
  • What materials or media are used in the creation of drawings?
  • What materials or media are generally needed in painting?
  • How is drawing often a part of the development of a painted work of art?
  • Why do some artists draw before they paint?
  • How do the skills of painting and drawing compare?
• A selection of two to three examples of craft media from the text that you will place in your selected work of architecture. Describe how they complement the mood or theme of your ideal community environment and include responses to the following:
  • Who was the creator?
  • What was her or his background and nationality?
  • When was the example of craft media originally created?
  • Where was the original location of the example of craft media?
  • For what purpose was the example of craft media originally created?
  • Does the form impede or support the function of your craft media examples?

Format your assignment consistent with APA guidelines. This means that a title page, introduction, and conclusion are present. Legitimate scholarly references (not Wikipedia, Dictionaries, Encyclopedias, or About.com) should be used and cited, including a reference page. 3-5 sources are required.
