Non-standard chant from the 9th-11th centuries. This could be any type of chant from a broad range of Western traditions, such as Ambrosian, Mozarabic, Sarum, Gallic, and so on. Locate an example of the chant and in your analysis describe what part of the Church service the chant informs, and how it differs to your ear from the standardized Roman style.

Choose your music thoughtfully and listen to the music mindfully. Post your media example and form an analysis by demonstrating at least three distinguishing characteristics (such as the prevalent style technique, instrumentation, social context, and so on) that your example displays. Consider an issue in society today that influences family dynamics, such as internet gambling, internet pornography, cyber infidelity, or another current issue that was not influential 10 years ago. Take into account how the issue impacts members of the family across generational lines, including children, parents, grandparents, and others.

For this Discussion, you will examine the impact that various contemporary issues have on families. Although you will consider issues that relate to both couples and families, you will focus on the family impact in order to understand the unique expression of these issues in a family setting.

Please consider issues that are exclusive to couples and families, (cyber infidelity, pornography and gaming addiction, the influence of social media), and examine the potential effects on those involved. You are encouraged to select an issue that may be a challenge for you.

To Prepare:

• select a recent peer-reviewed research article, within the last five years, that discusses a contemporary issue impacting families. Optional and required reading material from the course cannot be used for this final question. Keep in mind everything that you have learned (i.e., ethics, culture, theory) in your search for an appropriate contemporary issue.
• In your search, consider a contemporary issue affecting couples or families that you think may be a challenge for you. Be mindful of issues related to culture, diversity, social change, LGBT families and adoption, unique needs of military families, internet infidelity, gambling, technology, interracial or intercultural challenges in couples, changing sociocultural definitions of family, or some other specific issue facing a unique group or demographic.
• Addiction, infidelity, divorce, domestic violence and child abuse are not new issues and have been studied for many years, so for this discussion, they are not considered a contemporary issue. However, if the issue has a contemporary component to it, it would be acceptable. For example, if the research is about social media or technology and infidelity that would be appropriate.
• Post the issue you selected from the literature and why you believe it is a significant issue for couples or families in today’s society. Be sure to include all cultural, social, ethical, and legal considerations relevant in your example, as well as the impact on the couple or family system. Explain what will be challenging for you and how you will address your challenge. Keep in mind, this forum is to discuss with your colleagues the potential challenges you will face in your work with couples and families dealing with contemporary issues. In this Discussion, you will consider which model of moral development is most accurate, as well as if and how moral development should be addressed in schools. Reflect on the following:

• Of the two models of moral development presented, which do you think most accurately accounts for the way that morality develops during middle childhood? Why?

• Keeping in mind your chosen model, what are your thoughts on the effectiveness of character education? Do you think your chosen model lends itself to explicit instruction in a school setting? Why or why not?

Part three: Assignment: Field Study — Middle Childhood

This week, you have learned about major concepts and milestones relating to affective and social development in middle childhood. In this assignment, you will synthesize this theoretical knowledge with what you observe during a real-life field study.

Prior to this week, you were asked to arrange to interview two children between the ages of 6 and 12. This week, you will interview these children with the goal of gaining insights into their affective and social development. Before conducting the interviews, be sure to prepare a list of questions. You may use the Week 3 Questionnaire Template below as a starting point. Although you may modify the template as you see fit, you should cover the following four major topics:

Emotional competence

Peer relations

Family and community

Week 3 Questionnaire Template

For the Week 3 Application Assignment, you will interview two children between the ages of 6 and 12 in order to gain insights about affective and social development during middle childhood. Use this template as a guide to determine the questions you will ask during the two interviews. You may add or delete questions as you see fit, but be sure to cover all of the major topic areas identified below during the interviews. You will submit the completed questionnaires, including the questions you asked, notes summarizing the answers you received, and any other relevant observations, as part of this assignment.

Self-concept

After the interviews, review your notes and reflect on what your findings reveal about affective and social development during middle childhood. Consider the following:
