Curriculum Overview

Write a  general  description of  curriculum  you  have designed , and  explain the importance of this topic in today’s schools and the highlights of your curriculum.    Include  aprox . 2 course long essential questions.  What are the key take- aways  from this entire curriculum?   Provide a rational for  of the decisions  that shape this curriculum (i.e. social justice, real world application, career and college readiness).   Consider this section the “sales pitch” to highlight some examples of your curricular topics and design i.e. highlight a final assessment.

 

Critical Review of Research   – at least 3 theorists references

Upon what philosophy or research is your curriculum designed?  Explain your rationale for the layout/teaching and learning strategies/ etc.  Provide evidence of curriculum effectiveness and necessity by  linking the curriculum to well- known curriculum theorists and current published researched.  Current research should b e from the last 5 years. You must include at least three theorists discussed in class.

 

A Course Long Curriculum Map (3+ pages)

Provide a “skeleton” view of you r planning over the course of an entire  school year. The year-long plan  will include  a t least 5 units of study  For each unit provide  the following: 1.  Unit Title /Theme/Length of Unit  2.  Unit Essential Questions  – 1 or 2 for each unit 3.  Unit Overview  (provide a description of what will happen during the course of the unit – summarize the activities that will take place, mention the books students will read , provide sample  activities students will  experience and complete, and a  description o f the summative assessment )

Purpose:   Construct an  in-depth view of the topics you have selected to instruct .  Inc luded in this template are the following:  1.  Unit Title/Theme/Length of Unit   2.  Unit Essential Questions  – 1 or 2 for each unit 3.  Unit Overview (provide a description of what will happen during the course of the unit – summarize the activities that will take place, mention the books students will read, provide sample activities students will experience and complete, and a description of the summative assessment) 4.  Standards 5.  Objectives  – at least 4: Students Will Be Able To (SWABT) 6.  A t least 8 Learning Activities /formative assessment  with  brief  descriptions 7.  One Summative Project Based Assessments 8.  Fiction and Non Fiction Texts  or other resources 9.  Accommodations  – select a type of learner in your classroom and explain at least 3 ways you will differentiate for that student throughout the year

 10.  Cross  Curricular  Links. Connect  at least one other subject area and explain how your curriculum will connect to that area of study.   Overall

Your proposal should be  well-written , free of errors, and conform to the 6 th Edition of the APA Publication Manual.  You should craft coherent descriptions, analyses, and arguments that represent clear writings and  thinkings  in response to the task.

APA Cover Page, APA Running Head and Page #s, Reference page, APA citations for Critical Review of Research . Not APA – make it  single spaced , use layout that works for you i.e. subheadings .
