Next : Create a deductively valid argument for the position. Identify the components and structure of your argument by presenting your deductively valid argument in standard form, and explain how your conclusion follows from your premises.
Standard form example is attached
Discussion 2
Think through the reasoning and determine what premise is (or premises are) missing that would be needed to make the argument valid. You might also consider challenging yourself by choosing from the more difficult examples in the list (at the bottom).
20. If I wear that cologne then women will love me. I bought that cologne, so women are going to love me.
Write : In your original post, be sure to include the entire original argument, in standard form, with your own added premise (or premises) in bold . After you have presented the argument, include a description of how the conclusion logically follows from the premises. Include also a reflection on whether it seems that the missing premise(s) is likely to be true (in the context). Would there be any way to fix the argument so that it is valid and has all true premises?

Last week, you created a social history of the Syrian teen from the interactive learning community. After generating the social history, it is time to create goals to meet the needs of the client. All the goals necessary will likely need to be in conjunction with another agency.
For example, if a client came in that was homeless and had a drug addition, he might be looking for help in receiving treatment for his drug addition, trying to find a living arrangement, receiving basic needs such as food and clothing, and finding a job. Your particular agency might be able to provide food and clothing. However, another agency might provide permanent housing arrangements and job hunting services. You would likely recommend counseling or treatment plans with another agency, as well.

Throughout the world, members of the LGBTQ community continue to struggle for their rights. In some countries, they have made some progress. In 2016, 20 countries legally recognized marriage for same-sex couples (Human Rights Campaign, 2016). However, in other countries, the LGBTQ community faces much greater obstacles, and the consequences of fighting for basic rights are grave for both LGBTQ individuals and allies. Being gay is a crime punishable by death in 10 countries and is illegal in a total of 73 countries (Human Rights Campaign, 2016). Because of the violence and social exclusion experienced globally, LGBTQ individuals may seek refugee status because of their sexual orientation or gender identity/expression (UN High Commissioner for Refugees [UNHCR], 2016).

Throughout this course, you will be creating and maintaining a blog. Before beginning your blog post for this week, review the following links: General Instructions WordPress Quick Start Guide Support: Videos (WordPress) ENG225 Sample Blog
Our textbook sets up a distinction between story and plot, stating that story is what happens in a movie, and plot is how it happens. The distinction may seem minor; however, throughout this course, we will be scrutinizing the various aesthetic choices and cinematic techniques that work together to create meaning in any movie. With that in mind, we can understand that the way a film presents action can be as important as the action it is presenting.
For your initial blog post Select a full-length film and identify the title, writer, director, major actors, and the year it was released. Summarize the story and plot of your chosen movie. Discuss whether your film is presented chronologically or non-linearly. In your discussion, address the following: How did this aesthetic choice contribute to the general effect on the audience? How are elements like character development or foreshadowing impacted by the choice of storytelling methods? If the film had followed a different presentation style, how would the general effect on the audience have been different?
You must use at least two outside sources, in any combination of embedded video clips, still photos, or scholarly sources. All sources should be documented in APA style as outlined by the Ashford Writing Center. To submit this blog, you will be required to post a link to the specific blog entry in the discussion forum. You are encouraged to explore your classmates’ blogs, but no replies are required.
Please note that if you opt to write about the same film in your Final Film Critique, applicable entries from this blog can be used to write that assignment. Please also note that you should reflect on and revise this blog material based on the instructor’s feedback before you incorporate it into the Final Film Critique.

Hi Trudie, I think you do a good job of summarizing the movie, and giving us a sense of how the characters are developed and their relationships to each other. You only briefly mention, though, that this movie was done in a chronological order. I would have liked some discussion about how this effected your experience of the film. How would the movie, and your experience of it, have changed if it were told in a more non-linear fashion? How do the ways in which the movie develops influence the ways in which the characters develop? Any thoughts?

Hi Willis, you do a good job of summarizing the film you chose and I like your use of images, as well. I am wondering though, if this film was told in a non-linear manner, as you mention, how did that method of telling this story effect the ways in which the characters found each other and the changes that entailed? What actions gave us insight into who these characters were and that they were meant to find each other? Would this movie have been as interesting if it were presented in a more linear manner? Any thoughts?
Hi Khadijah, you do a good job of summarizing the movie you chose, and you mention that it was presented chronologically. Although you do mention that the chronological order helps the audience to understand the characters and to follow the characters as they grow and learn, I am wondering: how does this orderly following of characters as they develop in the film affect your experience of it? Do you think the film would have been as interesting to you if it had gone back and forth between past and present, for instance? How are the characters effected by the way in which the story is told? Any thoughts?
Hi Scott, you do a good job of summarizing the film you chose, and you describe the general elements of character and plot clearly. You only briefly mention, though, that the film you chose was presented in chronological order. There is no discussion of how this contributed to the effects on the audience. How did it contribute to your experience of the film? What if it had been told in a non-linear fashion; how would that have changed that experience? I would also like more discussion of the character development, and any foreshadowing in the film itself. How did the ways in which the characters were developed effect your experience? What did the foreshadowing you mention add to that experience? Any thoughts?

Hi Conniemarie, although you do a nice job of talking about the elements of the film you chose (lighting, etc.) you make no real mention of whether the story in the film was told chronologically or in a non’linear manner. Do you think that this is a movie that needs to be told chronologically in order to be fully understood? Is there any place in the film where the chronology becomes more non-linear? What about the main character’s thoughts and feelings? Do you think that because we are getting his view of these things that we feel his fear and determination as a result? Any thoughts?

Hello, Instructor Vineski
I think when I was editing my work I took that part out. Due to the constant flashbacks it would be advised that film was told in a non-linear manner. I do not think it is necessary to tell the story chronologically to convey the story. I think, using the non-linear execution of the film gave the story of the individual and the events deeper meaning. We understand war as people fighting and blowing things up causing mass devastation. To think there is more to the war efforts and how someone or rather a group of people came together that had no military background contributed to ended a war. It was suggested in the film that if it wasn’t for them the war would have gone on for another four or more years.
Throughout the movie it seems there was two distinctive timeline flowing the time of WWII and Post WWII, in a way chronological time was present.
The main character had many secrets and internal conflict that influenced the way he viewed the world and people in it, which is why he kept to himself and engrossed himself to building Christopher and even keeping Christopher after the war ended. He didn’t feel connected with people and the only thing he knew and understood was puzzles and his machine (Christopher), in turn he questions whether or not he is a person or a machine as he plays the imitation game with the Detective. Of course the detective has not righ to judge who Alan is as a person, and in response Alan told him he is useless to help him.
Last module, you were asked to summarize three study strategies that you learned and to explain how each of the strategies could be modified or used to work with your individual learning style. Continue working on your summary as you add the strategies you learned this module. It is important that you do this because you will need this summary for your Personal plan for success submission in Module 5.
In this module’s discussion assignment: Share three strategies you have learned that you would like to implement in your current studies. Explain how each strategy complements your learning environment and how you may have modified it to meet your personal learning style.

For some adolescents, experiencing physical pain becomes a regular practice for managing psychological pain. Whether used as a coping mechanism, a way to express anger, or to deal with intense emotional pain, self-harming is often a call for help.
In school settings, faculty and staff are charged with protecting students, but how can they protect those students who choose to harm themselves? The importance of educators understanding the circumstances, causes, and effects of self-harming behavior so they can respond quickly and effectively cannot be overstated. For this Assignment, consider your role as a social worker and think about how you would raise awareness for educators to respond to this increasing maladaptive coping mechanism. By Day 7
Submit a 5- to 6-slide PowerPoint presentation explaining the indicators of self-harm, appropriate interventions, and follow-up steps for educators needing to respond to those who self-harm.
