In this course so far, you have spent time learning about various world religions and also the philosophy of religion. Now it is time for you to examine faith on an individual level.

In this assignment, you are going to look at the religious beliefs of one person and then categorize those beliefs. You may give a brief account of your own faith or you may interview someone and give an account of his or her faith.

Next, categorize those beliefs according to the following typology: Polytheist Monotheist Deist Pantheist Panentheist Atheist Agnostic Mystic Other

Describe the category you chose. Give examples of the beliefs of the person you wrote about and then explain why those beliefs belong in the category you selected.

Next, give a short answer to the following classic questions of philosophy, relative to the category you have chosen: What can this person believe about God and the universe? What must this person do to lead an ethical life? What may this person hope? What happens to this person when he or she dies?

Your initial response should be 2 to 3 paragraphs (250 words) in length. If you write about another person’s beliefs, remember to keep that person anonymous.

After you post your initial response, please respond to a minimum of two of your peers’ original posts. Remember, you are not to criticize the religious beliefs of your classmates.

By the due date assigned write an account of you own religious beliefs, or those of a friend, and post that account to the Discussion Area. By the due date assignedrespond to at least two original postings from your classmates.

The origins of Judaism and Hinduism are almost 4,000 years old. Buddhism arose from the teachings of a single Hindu teacher more than two thousand years ago. All three have changed and developed over the centuries. All three are very much alive today.

Concentrating on their current forms, compare the approaches of the three religions to the basic religious questions: How should I think about ultimate reality (Hinduism)? Is there a Supreme Being (Judaism)? Should I even think of god, letting myself be my supreme authority (Buddhism)? What is the relationship of human beings to this reality (God)? What exactly is the concept of faith to each of these three religions? Is it the same as belief, or not? Consider all three religions and compare. How do these concepts of the Ultimate Reality, Supreme Being or self help address the following questions: What is wrong with the world, and how can I help to fix it? What am I supposed to do with my life?

Consider the three religions, Buddhism, Hinduism, and Judaism. In an essay of approximately 700 to 800 words in length, answer the questions listed above. Be sure to use appropriate APA format for citations and to include at least one reference for each religion.

Mise en scène is a term meant to encompass the arrangement and use of a variety of design elements in creating the visual theme of a film. Please look through Chapter 5 (Mise en Scene and Actors) for more information on this term.
 

It can be easier to grasp the importance of the term mise en scène if we break it down into its component elements. This week, we’ll look at the impact of lighting choices on the creation of meaning in a film.
 

In any film, the intensity and direction of lighting will influence how an image is perceived by the viewer, and it can establish or enforce particular themes. Using specific examples from your chosen film, construct a blog post in which you Identify the type of lighting used in the film      (traditional three-point, high-key, or low-key) and assess the impact of      the lighting used to establish the theme.  What are the benefits of the style of lighting used? How did this technique contribute to the theme? How was the lighting technique suited to the genre of       the film? For example, documentary films tend to rely on natural light as       a way of creating an overall tone of authenticity. Compare how the scene would play if different choices      had been made.

You must use at least two outside sources, in any combination of embedded video clips, still photos, or scholarly sources. All sources should be documented in APA style as outlined by the Ashford Writing Center. It is suggested that you approach this blog by focusing your attention on the same film you will write about in this week’s “Genres and Genre Film” assignment. To submit this blog, you will be required to post a link to the specific blog entry in the discussion forum. You are encouraged to explore your classmates’ blogs, but no replies are required.
 

Please note that if you opt to write about the same film in your Final Film Critique, applicable entries from this blog can be used to write that assignment.
