I attended a theatre production of Marie Antoinette play. I have a few notes but not enough to do the assignment myself.

Write an essay in which you analyze one aspect of that production. In this essay, you will be relying on the performance rather than the written text as the basis for your argument and analysis. In other words, you won’t be offering an interpretation of a piece of dramatic literature, but rather you will be analyzing how a specific element of production was put to use in the production. You might, for instance, consider what lighting choices were made and how they added to or detracted from what you perceived to be the “message(s)” of the play. Or you might want to speculate about how the set design works with or against the predominant themes in the script. Other aspects that you might consider including are direction, costuming and makeup, sound, and acting.

you will submit your proposed thesis statement for your production analysis. Bring your thesis statement with you to class.

Please note that this assignment does not ask you to simply review the performance. Rather, you are being asked to take one aspect of the production and relate it to the whole. You might find it useful to do a little background research on the particular aspect of performance that you have isolated. For instance, if you choose to discuss the use of lighting, then you might want to check out several books on lighting to understand the basic terminology, functions, and uses of stage lighting. Also, be sure to take copious notes during (or shortly after) the performance. These notes will constitute the primary text under analysis for this assignment.

These essays should be four to five pages in length, and they will be evaluated on the basis of the following criteria: (1) clarity of writing, (2) argumentation skills, (3) ability to articulate and support a thesis statement, (4) ability to synthesize textual information with personal ideas, and (5) grammar, syntax, and so on.

Drama Paper: Mini-research paper (4-5 pages, Times Roman 12, double-spaced)

 In this paper, as in our previous assignments, you will be doing a close reading, but with two differences: (1) this paper asks you to examine two works and compare/contrast them, and (2) this paper requires research.  In this paper, you will compare and contrast Shakespeare’s Hamlet and Henrik Ibsen’s A Doll House.  Your larger purpose in comparing/contrasting them is to consider the concept of tragedy.  Your thesis should make an assertion about the nature of tragedy in both works.

 This paper will address the following questions:

• How are these two plays different?  Do these differences tell us something about the nature of tragedy?
• How are these two plays similar?  Do these similarities tell us something about the nature of tragedy, or about the difference between Shakespearean drama and “modern” theater?

In this assignment, you are confined to discussing these two plays, but within this framework, you are free to choose what order to address these questions in and how to create a thesis that focuses your discussion.  Feel free to emphasize comparison and de-emphasize contrast or vice-versa, as long as in some way you have done both.  Be sure to give equal time to both plays, however.

It is also up to you how to use research in this paper.  My recommendation is that you use it to bolster your discussion of tragedy, drawing from scholarly sources to create your definitions, but you may also want to use articles on the plays themselves to help with your readings.  This is fine, as long as the following conditions are met:

1. All sources must be cited correctly using MLA documentation.  This includes (1) in-text citations and (2) a Works Cited page.
2. You must use at least five sources.  There is no maximum: if you would like to include more sources, that’s fine, but since our objective is close reading, it’s definitely not necessary.

Length: This is a lot of material to cover in 4-5 pages.  This means you need to be very concise.  Do not go over five pages!  Less is more.

Assignment 2: Environmental Policy

There are several environmental laws, regulations, and policies that currently influence your life, and they include the following:

• NEPA
• The Clean Air Act
• The Clean Water Act
• The Endangered Species Act
• The Superfund
• CITES
• The Montreal Protocol
• The Basel Convention

Choose one (1) of these environmental regulations, or another policy that interests you; then, research your chosen regulation or policy’s requirements and environmental and economic impacts.

Write a three to five (3-5) page paper in which you:

1. Describe three (3) key elements of the regulation or policy you chose. Specifically, discuss who is affected and what actions they are required to undertake, including federal and state agencies and specific industries, and how these requirements are enforced.
2. Assess three (3) effects this regulation or policy had on our environment. Next, quantify its effects, if possible, to analyze whether or not the regulation had the desired effect on the environment.
3. Discuss three (3) economic effects of your chosen policy or regulation. Next, describe the direct costs of implementation, as well as the effect the regulation has had on economic growth. If possible, find a benefits/cost analysis that will provide you with objective analyses of this regulation’s economic impact.
4. Speculate whether or not you believe that this policy or regulation has been successful overall. Next, debate whether or not your chosen policy or regulation has promoted environmental benefits or outweighed its economic costs. Lastly, determine whether you would recommend renewing this policy or regulation when it comes to its expiration date, or whether you should let the policy or regulation expire. Justify your response.
5. Use at least three (3) quality resources / references in this assignment, in addition to the course text. Note: Wikipedia and personal blogs do not qualify as quality resources.
6. Your assignment must follow these formatting requirements:

This assignment will involve reviewing developmental stages and applying these ideas to selecting appropriate toys or activities.

1. Looking at Piaget’s theory of cognitive development fill out the chart below. What did Piaget say that a child could do (accomplishment) but could not do (limitation) in each stage? 

2. After you do that, describe (for each age group) an ideal toy or leisure activity. Describe why it would be a good toy/activity. You can describe this based on observations of children in your family (or on YouTube) or from looking at toys in stores.
