Final Project Submission. This week, you will build upon what you have already submitted by refining and adding to it. For the final submission, you will revisit slide 5 and add slides 6 and 7 to conclude your Final Project submission.

  • Based on feedback that you received from your Final Project Milestone submission, revise the slides/web pages you have submitted. Then, follow the instructions here for the remaining slides/web pages.
  • Slide/web page 5: In Week 3, you identified five important people who helped in the development or growth of your chosen medium during its evolution. This week, analyze the contributions of these people to the history of the medium and add that information to the slide.
  • Slide/web page 6: Make a summary statement about the effect of mass communication on people today based on the information collected for slides/web pages 1–5. Add a short bulleted list that highlights three predictions about where mass communication could lead people in the future.
  • Slide/web page 7: Provide a total of 8 sources for your project. For all sources, record where you found information about them. Include all relevant information about the source (author; date of publication; the book, article, or website; etc.).

According to Goleman (2000), leading, managing, and following require different skills from those associated with technical skills-based aspects of nursing. The required skills to increase harmony among the workplace include: emotional intelligence, possessing social skills, interpersonal competence, psychological maturity, and emotional awareness. A person with strong self-awareness would demonstrate the ability to step outside oneself to envision the context of what is happening while recognizing and owning feelings associated with an event (Yoder-Wise, 2011). Other attributes of leaders and managers include having the ability to examine multiple options to accomplish the objective at hand flexibly, identify the needs of others and willingness to accept responsibility and follow up on the consequences of actions taken.

An example of a person with strong self-awareness would be when a nurse is doing their initial health evaluation of a patient and through the awareness of patient’s non-verbal clues, realizes that the patient is uncomfortable for some reason. Then, nurse realizes that patient is of Asian decent and remembers that some cultures believe that direct eye contact, modesty and invading personal space can be seen as disrespectful. The nurse than asks the patient if there is anything they can do to make them more comfortable. Once they patient responds, the nurse should then respect that patient’s wishes and adapt the assessment to help the patient feel as respected as possible without compromising the assessment. In doing so, that nurse demonstrated the ability to step out of oneself and accomplish the objective at hand flexibly while identifying and needing the needs of others.

For this discussion you will review technology checkpoints as they relate to the three main principles of UDL. Then, to prepare for this discussion, read the Week Four Instructor Guidance and then visit the UDL Guidelines – Version 2.0: Examples and Resources (2014) website. At the website, select the principle you have been assigned based on your last name using the list below. You will then choose one checkpoint from the principle you have been assigned to review.

  • If your last name begins with A-J: Choose one checkpoint from any of the three guidelines from Principle 1. Provide Multiple Means of Representation.
  • If your last name begins with K-O: Choose one Checkpoint from any of the three guidelines from Principle 2 Provide Multiple Means of Action and Expression.

Within the checkpoint there are several examples and/or resources that support the principle and checkpoint. Next, choose one example/resource that interests you to explore, interact with, and evaluate. You may also choose to consider examples geared toward the grade level you are currently teaching, have experience in, or intend to teach.

Initial Post: Create a Jing tutorial or other multimedia-based presentation with software such as Present.me to showcase the specific UDL checkpoint example selected. Include the link to your Jing tutorial or presentation featuring the example/resource selected as well as written responses to the discussion points below. Your written response needs to be between one and two paragraphs in length. One of the ways to make your discussion engaging and effective is by including audio of your voice alongside a presentation of the information you have investigated. You can talk through these points during your tutorial. Keep in mind, the maximum length of a Jing video is five minutes so it will help to create a presentation in PowerPoint first that is five slides long with each slide covering one of the five points below. If for some reason you are unable to complete this discussion using the recommended technology, please contact your instructor for an alternative way to respond.

  1. State the principle and checkpoint (number and description) analyzed.
