The case is a woman found unresponsive by her daughter at home, her daughter found her, informed the Paramedics she’s diabetic, where she was given dextrose and she came back. Please help me work up this patient as I’m a little stuck. Please see attached for more info. Susan White is a 48 y/o obese female who was found unresponsive in bed by her daughter when she had not come down for breakfast. The daughter called 911. We found the patient unresponsive and were told by her daughter that she is a type 2 diabetic on long-acting insulin. The only other known med is an albuterol inhalers uses PRN. The patient does not have a history of recreational drug use >20 years in the past. The patient was unresponsive to everything but pain, but was breathing on her own with no distress. Vital signs were: RR = 14, Pulse = 106, Temp = 98.4, BP = 118/62. Finger-stick glucose was 20. We administered one amp of D50 as per protocol after checking her pupils (norma). She quickly improved an become conscious and denied any recreational drug use.
