Assignment 3: Person-Situation Interaction

There are six ways in which a person and the situation interact to shape a person’s goals, thoughts, feelings, and behaviors.

These are:

1. Different persons respond differently to the same situation.

2. Situations choose the person.

3. Persons choose the situation.

4. Different situations can prime different parts of the person.

5. Persons change the situation.

6. Situations change the person.

As part of your answer:

• Discuss what is meant by each of these dyads.
• Provide an example of how each one works.
• Assume you are a supervisor. How would you work within each of these situations with your employees to increase employee motivation? How would your decisions be affected by each person-situation dyad?
• Assume that you are an industrial/organizational consultant brought into the same office as asked to study these person-situation interactions in order to advise management how to best put them to use to increase employee motivation which research design would you use? Why is this design the best fit for this office situation?

Use the Department of Labor’s Employment and Training Administration website and find the area on Registered Apprenticeship. Explore the Employers section. Based on the information found here, create an apprenticeship proposal for a position in the company you work for or wish to work for. In your apprenticeship, make sure to include specific skills the apprentice will be learning, the modeling and practice techniques that will be used, and the feedback process that will be incorporated (both informal and formal). Explain how many hours per week the apprentice will work, and how long the entire apprenticeship should take. Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of your apprenticeship program.
Use Microsoft Word to create your proposal. The proposal should be between two to three pages in length, and all sources used need to be cited according to APA format.

Prepare: Prior to beginning this discussion, please read the following articles: “Relieving human suffering: Compassion in social policy” and “A pragmatic view of Jean Watson’s caring theory.”

Reflect: Within the boundaries of the health and
human services, there are thousands of employees providing a great
variety of services. The process of dealing with humans in need is not
simplistic. One practitioner, Dr. Jean Watson, has become a leader in
Caring Theory.

Write: After reading the article, “A Pragmatic View of Jean Watson’s Caring Theory,” you are asked to do the following in a minimum of 300 words:

• Assess Dr. Watson’s Caring Theory based on its strengths and limitations.
• Describe other theories and frameworks you would consider, and why?
• Develop a set of values that should be the foundation of a caring
  Perspective in the health and human services utilizing the articles
  from this discussion.

Create a completed Time Management Plan, which should include the following sections:

• Laying the Foundation (Goals)
  • Restate the big-picture goals you wrote in Week 1 and revised (if applicable) for this week’s Discussion.
• Self-Analysis
  • Summarize the SWOT Analysis that you performed in Week 1, adjusting any of the four areas of assessment based on your growth and learning in this course.
  • Personal Style and Preferences Time Management System Design
    • Analyze your results on the four exercises you completed this week: “What’s Working,” “What’s Not Working,” “Your Time Management Preferences,” and “Your Energy Cycles and Sources.”
• Strategy and Design
  • Based on your big-picture goals, identify and describe specific activities, as well as daily tasks that make up those activities.
  • Create a Time Map (either in graphical form or as an appropriately formatted table with clear headings and labels) in which you display specific information about your goals, activities, and tasks and their relationship to other aspects of your life. Describe how your map meets the criteria from the Time Map Checklist and identify the tools you will use to keep you on track. Include your time map as a figure in your paper or as an appendix; be sure to utilize appropriate APA formatting.
• Making It Happen
  • Develop your strategy for putting your plan into practice. In your strategy, address the following:
    • How will you use the tools you have identified to keep you balanced, hold yourself accountable to your plan, and monitor your productivity?
    • How often will you review your progress?>
    • What alternative strategies will you put in place to manage risks, environmental factors, and/or psychological obstacles?

Assignment Objectives

Classify situations that present potential ethical and legal issues, and develop solutions for those issues

Students will choose a company of their liking and use any of the 2 (qualitative or quantitative) research and analysis methods to demonstrate selected perceptions (approved by the faculty) of the company. This project requires you to research, review, and analyze perceptions of the company. Specifically, your research paper will include the following:

• Provide background information on the chosen organization
• Description of the diverse literature available on varied research methods
• Identify the type of research method to be used and justify the reasons for using a particular approach
• Undertake the research method for data collection and analysis and present the findings

Present your findings as a Word document of 5–6 pages (body of paper) formatted in APA style.

Submitting your assignment in APA format means, at a minimum, you will need the following:

1. Title Page: Remember the Running head: AND TITLE IN ALL CAPITALS.
2. Abstract: A summary of your paper, not an introduction. Begin writing in third person voice.
3. Body: The body of your paper begins on the page following the title page and abstract page and must be double-spaced (be careful not to triple- or quadruple-space between paragraphs). The type face should be 12-pt. Times Roman or 12-pt. Courier in regular black type. Do not use color, bold type, or italics except as required for APA-level headings and references. The deliverable length of the body of your paper for this assignment is 5–6 pages. In-body academic citations to support your decisions and analysis are required. A variety of academic sources is encouraged.
4. Reference Page: References that align with your in-body academic sources are listed on the final page of your paper. The references must be in APA format using appropriate spacing, hang indention, italics, and upper and lower case usage as appropriate for the type of resource used. Remember, the Reference Page is not a bibliography but a further listing of the abbreviated in-body citations used in the paper. Every referenced item must have a corresponding in-body citation.
