“Women in history have faced hardship and was viewed as a lesser compared to the male-defined society. Women of the colonial and the early nineteenth century were involved in activities that were an extension of their domestic and traditional roles (Lerner, 1975). “The women taught school, cared for the poor, the sick and the aged” (Lerner, 1975). In the article, “Hull House in the 1890s”, it showed that women were not given equal treatment and did not have their own voice in individuality. The Hull House provided colleagues with a sense of individuality and this in return allowed for social innovation. Women that were well-educated were blocked from entering the legal, political and academic profession (Sklar, 1985). Addams, Lathrop, and Kelley all showed that women are more than just staying at home and reliving the old traditional ways of life. They graduated from Rockford College, Vassar College, and Cornell University (Sklar, 1985). African American women endured tough events with the Bureau. “The bureau regarded freedwomen who stirred up trouble as vagrants” (Farmer-Kaiser, n.d). African American women were also regarded as unemployed vagrants based on their worthiness (Farmer-Kaiser, n.d). “The Bureau also threatened to prosecute black women who gave their employers trouble or raucously refused to accept employment” (Farmer-Kaiser, n.d). Women throughout history were going through hardship in obtaining employment, voting rights, and trying to achieve equality in a male-defined society.”

“Lerner discusses how traditional approaches to women’s history have been done through a lens of a male-defined value system rather than a female oriented one. She writes that nineteenth century directed their work “into channels which were merely an extension of their domestic concerns and traditional roles”. Lerner also writes about women’s history being conceptualized at the level of their “contributions” to larger movements.[1] In this concept women are not the central players but supporters of movements rather than leaders of them.

In the article on Hull House Sklar discusses how women like Florence Kelley relied not just upon the other reformers at Hull House but many other women’s men’s groups, as well as, labor and political organizations to pas major legislation to regulate sweatshops. These reforms included an 8 hour work day for women and children and regulations on minimum ages of employment for children. Sklar writes that this episode “shows how women reformers and the gender specific issues they championed helped advance class specific issues during a time of fundamental social, economic, and political transition.” [2]

The article on Reconstruction in the South and the Freedman’s Bureau describes some of the differences gender roles had on the oppression of freedmen versus freedwomen in Reconstruction South. The hypocrisy of the Bureau in essentially forcing freed slaves back into similar working conditions of slavery through sharecropping and other means demonstrates some significant differences between how race and socio-economic status impact the diverse experience of women in history. The article examined some interesting dynamics in how freedmen were manipulated to compel their wives to join the plantation workforce by exploiting traditional gender roles.[3]”

Students are to present their findings to their fellow students using a PowerPoint presentation.The presentation should be approximately 15-20 minutes in length. Advertising, catalogues, videos should also be used for the presentation. The paper should be approximately 5 pages double spaced, and should not exceed 5 pages.

  1. Total revenues of the mother brand /licensor for the most recent fiscal year.
  2. Identify all products currently licensed by the mother brand/licensor. Name the licensee making the product.
  3. Retail Distribution: Name the particular retailers that sell the mother product, and the licensed product. Comment on the visual presentation of the mother brand and the licensed product in the different retailers that you visit. You must document which retailers you visited, the date, and location. There should be at least one group visit to a major retailer. Photos of your visits should be included in your presentation.
  4. The identification of the common message that is evident across all products. This is the identification of the brand DNA. Identify the visual continuity of the brand across all products, those made in house, and those that are licensed. Identify the target customer of the brand
  5. A critique of the brand positioning of the mother brand (brand positioning map), and the licensed product (brand positioning map) you choose to critique. Critique the packaging of the brand, the presentation in store, the price point, the advertising/promotion of the brand, and the website presentation.
  6. Compare the positioning of one of the licensed products of the mother brand against one licensed product of a competitor in the same tier of distribution. Name the licensees of all products discussed.
  7. References must be cited in the body of the work. The students must critique the licensed product and give their point of view of why the licensee does, or does not convey the brand message. Evidence of critical thinking will be heavily weighted in the grading process. The rationale of how you arrived at your conclusions is important.

Proper grammar and spelling will be counted in the grading process, as well as the importance of the sources utilized.

The presentation will also be graded on the effectiveness of the presentation skills of the group.

this is example for what I want, it is for my classmate do not copy anything please.

I thought that it was very interesting in the very first paragraph that the pioneer of film was not actually interested in any aspect of creating a story, but instead he was intrigued with the idea of a moving picture caught on video. It wasn’t until the help from Porter and Melies’s editing skills that actually brought this new idea of video to the art culture. I also found it interesting that there were different “rules” about how the actors and props in the video had to occur in order to register for the camera (it makes sense because the type of technology they were using is nothing like today so the speed and quality of the camera used is much different than what we are accustomed to. I also thought it was interesting that there was a speech coach Delsarte, who spent his career trying to teach this actors how to professionally coordinate their gestures with their speech in a film. I also thought it was rather interesting that a lot of the things that the actors were told to do towards the beginning of when film was created was not only tweaked to work better on screen but some things were changed completely. (an example of this would be posing, previously it was encouraged but now it was something film makers despised. Or originally they would tell you to “play a noun” and in today’s film no one would even look at your films if you played a noun instead of a well developed character ) I liked how the article had also mentioned how much the actors/actresses had influenced the audience. Many of them copied hairstyles, clothing, etc. This is a big part of the movie industry even today, which is setting trends for the audience to follow and is a big part of profit rights to the movies now a days. (ex. The Disney movies such as frozen have apparel from clothing, to bedding, to shoes, etc.). Overall I really enjoyed this reading, there was a lot of information that I was unaware of and I could have added more examples of what I thought interesting but I would basically be re-writing the reading. I really enjoyed seeing how much silent films have changed and evolved into the films we see today, and I thought it was rather fun to learn about how difficult something was even when it didn’t look very hard to begin with.
