Meanwhile, Louis and Harvey have been hard at work finalising the office renovations and decide to reward themselves with a movie and game of laser skirmish. After visiting the cinema, they head to a nearby laser skirmish facility, ‘Flash Fort’(which they’ve never visited before), for a few fun games to unwind for the day. The entrance, like the rest of the building, is dark with only fluorescent lights illuminating surroundings. They approach the counter where the staff member present asks them to write their names down and runs through some safety instructions

before asking them to pay and suit up for their session. The full terms of participation are on the orange sign labelled ‘Mission Rules’ on the other side of the entrance (circled in picture below). When asked by Louis, the staff member indicates that they are not required to sign anything because ‘everything they need to know is up on the wall’ and they have to hurry because ‘the session starts pretty much as soon as they’ve paid and had the safety briefing’. Harvey and Louis look around and spot the sign. As they are walking over the countdown siren sounds, indicating their session is about to start. The sign is 70cm wide and 50cm high and bright orange. The heading of the sign is large and bold, while the terms of participation on the sign are printed in size 14 ‘Courier New’ font. The text colour is black. One of the terms, Term 18, reads:

18. Players must immediately leave the laser skirmish room when the session end announcement is made over the PA system. Any player who remains in the laser skirmish room for longer than one (1) minute after the session end announcement must pay a delay fee of $10.00, payable on departure.

Harvey and Louis commence their one-hour session. When the session end announcement is made, they begin making their way out of the centre. They are laughing and joking about their experience and recounting some of the funny moments, walking casually at slow pace. When they finally exit the laser skirmish room the staff member indicates that they took over a minute to leave and must each pay $10. Harvey and Louis are furious about this, as it not only seems absurdly unfair but they did not know about this requirement

Federal, state, and local judicial systems have unique processes and require administration to effectively move cases through the systems. Players from each
system interact in the administration of justice; therefore, it is important to understand how the systems work and engage with each other for efficient judicial
administration. Understanding how judicial systems work is key for anyone looking to pursue a career within the courts.
For your final project, you will examine and evaluate the roles and processes of the systems, regardless of your position within the systems. Through analyzing a
scenario, you will determine proper venue, jurisdiction, and litigation process, as well as make administrative decisions. You will also assume multiple
perspectives in order to determine efficient and effective ways to move a case through the judicial process.
In this first milestone for your final project, you will begin to examine the case scenario provided below, and explore relevant judicial systems as they apply to
the scenario.

Specifically, you will submit the Draft of the Judicial Systems section of your scenario analysis. Using your assigned reading and course materials, you
will analyze the structure of the courts and the application of principles of jurisdiction and venue to the scenario provided below. This is the same scenario you
will use to inform your next milestone assignment and your final project submission.

Scenario

Jed, Herman, and Jane live in Washington, D.C. Jed and Jane entered the local bank and took $65,000. Jed and Herman both used shotguns during the robbery,
though no one was hurt. Jane drove the getaway vehicle. Two hours later, as they headed toward the Canadian border, they were stopped by the police for
speeding and taken into custody. The police determined that Jed and Jane matched the eyewitness descriptions of the robbers. Jane confessed their bank
robbery scheme. Jed and Herman denied their involvement. The police only recovered $25,000 in cash, but were unable to determine if the recovered money
was taken from the bank. The police determined that Jed was a convicted felon at the time of the armed bank robbery. The local police and FBI were involved in
the investigation.
The defense attorneys for each defendant (Jed, Herman, Jane) request a continuance for four months to sift through the evidence. The prosecution objects and
argues that the delay would significantly clog the court’s already heavy workload. In the alternative, the prosecution argues that if the court grants a
continuance, then the prosecution should be allowed to prolong turning over the remaining discovery. The defense attorneys object and argue that this hinders
their effective representation of their clients and would hinder a prompt resolution. The defense attorneys further argue that their clients deserve a well
prepared and thorough defense. The judge currently has trials blocked over the next 10 months and wants to try the case now.
Specifically, the following critical elements must be addressed:

I. Judicial Systems

A. Describe the hierarchical structure for federal, state, and local court systems. What is the primary role of each level?

B. Explain the primary differences between the federal and state levels of judicial systems. Describe the importance of having these different levels.
C. Explain the subject matter jurisdiction for federal, state, and local courts. What impact does this have on the efficiency of court systems?

D. Distinguish which court(s) would have jurisdiction in this scenario. Defend your response.

E. Determine how venue is decided upon. What are the implications of venue?

F. What would the venue be for this scenario? Defend why this venue is the most appropriate.

You are the Assistant HIM Manager and have been asked to develop a Privacy and Security Training PowerPoint. This PowerPoint will be used to acclimate new employees to HIPAA during the New Employee Orientation Class.

The PowerPoint should be a minimum of 9 slides (including title and reference pages) and needs to address the following:

1. Define HIPAA and its purpose.
2. Describe the difference between privacy and security.
3. Describe the importance of privacy and security in healthcare.
4. Discuss how employees can ensure the privacy of patient information.
5. Discuss how employees can ensure the security of patient information.
6. Discuss why employees must sign a confidentiality form upon hire.

Conduct an observation of human social behavior in a public place (i.e., supermarket, church, nightclub) but not in a private area (i.e., bathroom, bedroom). Specific references should be made in the observation to principles discussed in class. These may include: altruism, attraction, conformity, gender, group influence, persuasion and/or prejudice.

Project Components

1. Title page: On your title page, in addition to your name, e-mail address, course title and number, and title of your observation, name the site of the observation.
2. Goals: In this section, list two to three goals for your observation. You might want to view social behaviors between genders; examine social behaviors among ethnic/racial groups; or determine age related social behaviors in a group. Useful terms include investigate, discover, reveal, (one page).
3. Research question: For this observation , you must have a specific question or set of questions that you are trying to answer. You might explore, for example, whether participants in your setting have any characteristic behaviors which are observable. In this section, state the question you are trying to answer. Your question must be detailed and specific. For example, are there distinguishable behaviors that lead a man to ask a woman to dance in a bar setting?; What are the specific behaviors of people who are paying attention in church?; Do older people influence the behavior of younger people?
4. Populations: Are there specific typologies that can be formed based on the social behaviors observed? For example, “Cautious Carl” is the driver who has both hands on the wheel, drives no faster than the speed limit, and maintains a serious look on his face. “Smiling Samantha” is the woman who talks to all the people she passes in the supermarket aisle.
5. Abstracts: Locate five abstracts from social psychological literature relating to your observation. Attach the abstracts to your paper and explain how the research helps form the research question for your observation.
6. Introduction (the setting): In this section, discuss the setting in which your observation will occur. Include sufficient detail so that it is clear how the setting might have affected behaviors discussed throughout the paper.
7. Observational sessions: In this section, detail the behaviors which occurred during your observation. You should have between 1 to 3 sessions in your setting.
8. Results: In this section, state the results you observed related to your research question. Also, explain why you drew the conclusions you drew based on the behaviors. Include theories from social psychology that point to these results. Discuss the influence of your own experiences on your observation results.
9. References: In this section, list the references you quoted in your paper. Add a bibliography of books, articles, and Web sites that you recommend regarding your observation.

The paper has to be a minimum of seven pages, not including the references page.
