Below is part of a conversation between a sales person and a meeting planner (customer). The sales person is working the 6-Step Sales Process, but the customer is now raising an objection. The sales person has been trained to use the Move-On Step to handle objections and other obstacles. Evaluate the sales person’s response to the objection. Did the sales person use the Move-On Step? If so, how well did he or she do it? Explain your answer. (Need a refresher on the Move-On Step? See the visual “demo” in the Week 7 folder.)

Customer: I saw a few negative reviews of your resort on Tripadvisor.

Sales person: You definitely don’t need to worry about those reviews. They were probably written months ago, before we finished renovating all of our guest rooms. We did have some complaints about décor and condition of the rooms before the renovations, but that’s all fixed now.

Read the case and answer the following questions

1. The Enron debacle created what one public official reported was a “crisis of confidence” on the part of the public in the accounting profession. List the parties who you believe were most responsible for that crisis. Briefly justify each of your choices.
2. List three types of consulting services that audit firms are now prohibited from providing to clients that are public companies. For each item, indicate the specific threats, if any, that the provision of the given service could pose for an audit firm’s independence.
3. For purposes of this question, assume that the excerpts from the Powers Report shown in Exhibit 3 provide accurate descriptions of Andersen’s involvement in Enron’s accounting and financial reporting decisions. Given this assumption, do you believe that Andersen’s involvement in those decisions violated any professional auditing standards? If so, list those standards and briefly explain your rationale.
4. Briefly describe the key requirements included in professional auditing standards regarding the preparation and retention of audit workpapers. Which party “owns” audit workpapers: the client or the audit firm?
5. Identify five recommendations made to strengthen the independent audit function following the Enron scandal. For each of these recommendations, indicate why you support or do not support the given measure. Also indicate which of these recommendations were eventually implemented.
6. Do you believe that there has been a significant shift or evolution over the past several decades in the concept of “professionalism” as it relates to the public accounting discipline? If so, explain how you believe that concept has changed or evolved over that time frame and identify the key factors responsible for any apparent changes.

7. As pointed out in this case, the SEC does not require public companies to have their quarterly financial statements audited. What responsibilities, if any, do audit firms have with regard to the quarterly financial statements of their clients? In your opinion, should quarterly financial statements be audited? Defend your answer.

It has been a year since the new CEO has been on the job, and the organization has seen sustainable growth. The former CEO came out of retirement to be elected the Chairwoman of the Board of Directors. At a recent meeting of the Board of Directors, the Chairwoman of the Board discussed the possible investment opportunities in the energy industry. She has asked you to prepare a case study on an energy company to establish if it is a good choice to include in the company’s investment portfolio.

Using CTU Library resources, choose a company in the energy industry and prepare a case study that addresses the following points:

• Introduction: Including a description of the company, its industry, and its business context.
• Organizational analysis: Including the company’s leadership, market, operations, finances, performance, and regulatory environment.
• Critical incidents: Including any stories of the organization’s challenges or achievements. How did it overcome the challenges? How did it accomplish its achievements?
• Investment potential: Including any of its current issues that need to be addressed or its potential goals for growth.
• Recommendation: Including how the investment might help the organization to address its current issues or realize its potential for growth.

Provide a reference list at the end of your case study of at least 10 CTU Library articles and include in-text citations for the articles in APA format.

After making your selection, read the “Methods” section within the article. Write a two- to- three page paper (excluding title and reference pages) that is formatted according to APA style as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center, presenting the information listed below. Your paper should begin with an introduction paragraph (including a thesis statement) and end with a concluding paragraph reaffirming the thesis and summarizing the major points made in the body of the paper. All sources used in the paper (such as the chosen article and the textbook) must be cited in the body of the paper and listed as references on a separate page at the end.

The body of your paper must contain the following criteria:

1. Identify the study by title and authors.
2. Determine what question(s) the authors are trying to answer by doing this research.
3. Associate the chosen study with a specific research area of psychology based on the information on research area in Chapter 1 of your course textbook. Explain your reasoning.
4. Summarize ethical issues which were addressed in the article and analyze the ethical principles applied. Can you discern additional ethical issues that apply but were not mentioned?
