select only one strategy and answer all the questions

Instructional Strategies Wiki

Think about the instructional strategies described and illustrated in the video as well as the chapter in Tomlinson and Imbeau. You will develop an instructional strategies wiki that can be used by any teacher as a resource.

Select only one instructional strategy from the following:

graphic organizers, scaffolding, small-group instruction, learning contracts, project based learning, independent study, learning/interest centers, WebQuests, expert groups, literature circles, anchor activities.

You must also include a second instructional strategy which will be tiered learning activities (everyone’s wiki will include tiered learning activities as a strategy).

Here is what you need to creatively include in your wiki for each strategy:

• A clear description of the instructional strategy and how to implement it in the classroom

• An example of this strategy in practice (a video you find or a video of your members using this strategy in the classroom)

• An explanation for why this strategy supports the principles of differentiated instruction

Finally, you must respond to the following two questions:

1. Consider the Tomlinson and Imbeau chapter: Teaching What You Believe. Which belief or beliefs is supported and justified by the instructional strategies you selected? Why?

2. How do Marzano’s strategies described in the video support differentiated instruction practices?

note: this is special education class and I’ll give you an example from my prof

Introduction

15

References and APA Format

10

Although it is recognized that there may be a limited number of references if any other than the article being reviewed, all references must be cited in two places: within the body of your paper and on a separate reference list. Choose references judiciously and cite them accurately. Cite all sources using APA format.

To use the ideas or words of another person without crediting the source is plagiarism. Plagiarism in its purest form involves copying passages either verbatim or nearly verbatim, with no direct acknowledgment of the source. The most common form of plagiarism is to paraphrase information from your source material. Paraphrasing does not relieve you of the obligation to provide proper identification of source data.

The best way to avoid plagiarism is to make sure all quotes, ideas, or conclusions not your own are given proper acknowledgment in your text. A key thought to remember is “If you did not write it, cite it!”

Also, all other aspects of the paper should conform to APA rules.

The Picture of Dorian Gray, English homework help

Timed Writing 1

Following are two letters. The first is written by Oscar Wilde in reference to comments by the Editor of the St. James Gazette, in response to the publication of Oscar Wilde’s The Picture of Dorian Gray. The second letter is the editor’s response.

Read both letters carefully, determining the purpose of each. In a well written essay, compare the rhetorical strategies that both authors employ, as well the letters’ effect upon the reader.

Letter #1: From Oscar Wilde (June 25, 1890)

Sir, I have your criticisms of my story, The Picture of Dorian Gray, and I need hardly say that I do not propose to discuss its merits or demerits, its personalities or its lack of personality. England is a free country, and ordinary English criticism is perfectly free and easy. Besides, I must admit that, either from temperament or from taste, or from both, I am quite incapable of understanding how any work of art can be criticised from a moral standpoint. The sphere of art and the sphere of ethics are absolutely distinct and separate; and it is to the confusion between the two that we owe the appearance of Mrs. Grundy, that amusing old lady who represents the only original form of humour that the middle classes of this country have been able to produce. What I do object to most strongly is that you should have placarded the town with posters on which was printed in large letters: MR OSCAR WILDE’S LATEST ADVERTISEMENT; A BAD CASE.

Whether the expression ‘A Bad Case’ refers to my book or to the present position of the Government, I cannot tell. What was silly and unnecessary was the use of the term ‘advertisement.’

I think I may say without vanity—though I do not wish to appear to run vanity down—that of all men in England I am the one who requires least advertisement. I am tired to death of being advertised. I feel no thrill when I see my name in a paper. The chronicler does not interest me any more. I wrote this book entirely for my own pleasure, and it gave me very great pleasure to write it. Whether it becomes popular or not is a matter of absolute indifference to me. I am afraid that the real advertisement is your cleverly written article. The English public, as a mass, takes no interest in a work of art until it is told that the work in question is immoral, and your reclame will, I have no doubt, largely increase the sale of the magazine; in which sale, I may mention with some regret, I have no pecuniary interest.

I remain, sir, your obedient servant
OSCAR WILDE

Letter #2: from the Editor of the St. James Gazette (June 25, 1890)

In the preceding column will be found the best reply which Mr Oscar Wilde can make to our recent criticism of his mawkish and nauseous story, “The Picture of Dorian Gray.” Mr Wilde tells us that he is constitutionally unable to understand how any work of art can be criticism from a moral standpoint. We were quite aware that ethics and aesthetics are different matters, and that is why the greater part of our criticisms was devoted not so much to the nastiness of “The Picture of Dorian Gray,” but its dullness and stupidity. Mr Wilde pretends that we have advertised it. So we have, if any readers are attracted to a book which, we have warned them, will bore them insufferably.

That the story is corrupt cannot be denied; but we added, and assuredly believe, that it is not dangerous, because, as we said, it is tedious and stupid.

Mr Wilde tells us that he wrote the story for his own pleasure, and found great pleasure in writing it. We congratulate him; there is no triumph more precious to your “aesthete” than the discovery of a delight which outsiders cannot share or even understand. The author of “The Picture of Dorian Gray” is the only person likely to find pleasure in it.

***It is supposed to be a timed writing in 40 minutes so there is no given length, it is just what you are able to write in the allotted time (with a beginning, middle, and end of course)***

3 Case Studies paper’s (1 page each)

case #1

Karen is a 30-year-old single woman. She was referred to a psychiatrist after six visits to
her primary care physician complaining of headaches, body aches, sharp pains above her left
ear, and a ringing in both ears. She was convinced she had a brain tumor, but a CAT scan
revealed no physiological cause.
During the interview, Karen mentions that she doesn’t like being in a hospital “because
being in a hospital puts you at risk for so many other diseases.” When pressed, she mentions
swine flu, avian flu, and AIDS. Karen does not use illegal substances or alcohol. She carries hand
sanitizer and discreetly spritzes it on her hands about every ten minutes or so. Part way through
the interview, Karen put on sunglasses “to block the fluorescent rays” from the overhead
lamps.

Family History: Father died three years ago of cancer. Mother is still alive. Grandmother
committed suicide at 31 when mother was eight. Grandfather is still alive, with history of
alcoholism.

case #2

Perla is a 50-year-old woman in a same sex partnership. She arrived with a stack of
pages from the Internet that “proved” that she has adult-onset ADHD. She mentions that she
has long periods of activity, including not sleeping for days. She says she “self-medicates” with
marijuana, energy drinks like Red Bull, and sleeping pills.
During the interview, it is hard to keep up with Perla. She bounces around the room and
from topic to topic. When the interviewer asks her to fill out a questionnaire, she asks for a
stapler. She then proceeds to simply staple her ADHD pages to the form. The interviewer asks
Perla to complete the survey on the form, Perla becomes irate: “I already did your damn work
for you. I told you I have ADHD!”

Family History: Unknown. Perla was adopted from Venezuela as a baby.

case #3

Jordan is a 22-year-old man who received medical discharge from the army after a 2-
year tour in Iraq. The initial discharge was for depression, but Jordan’s family has begun to
believe that it may be more complicated. Jordan has been discovered wandering at night
“following the way the flags are showing me to go” or following a possibly imaginary woman
with a scarred neck.
During the interview, Jordan seems lucid, but lethargic. He drums his fingers slowly on
each thigh, as if playing a slow piano scale. His answers are all one or two words, such as “fine”
or “I guess.” When asked about the woman with the scarred neck, he becomes slightly more
animated.

Jordan: She’s a beautiful woman, isn’t she?
Interviewer: I don’t know, Jordan. I’ve never seen her.
Jordan: Right, because you don’t have the ring.
Interviewer: What ring?
Jordan: [mumbles]
Interviewer: Can you tell me about the ring?
Jordan: I said the ring is the fuse.
Interviewer: The fuse to what, Jordan?
Jordan: Without the fuse… well, you know what happens. It’s a fuse.
Interviewer: I don’t, Jordan. What happens?
Jordan: Fuses light up you know. And then, they blow up. That’s all.

Family History: Mother and father are still alive, but divorced. Mother is remarried.
Mother has history of diabetes. Father’s leg was amputated during first Gulf War. History of
emotional abuse by father.

For each case, include the following:

  • An analysis of the situation and possible causes for the subject’s behavior
  • A preliminary diagnosis of the subject’s disorder using the symptoms he or she displays
  • The set of therapies you suggest for helping the subject deal with his or her symptoms

    CASE STUDY:

Mrs. Tau is a 55 year old Grandmother. She has just been promoted to the head of housekeeping at a local hotel chain in your home town/city. She will be working Monday through Friday, 6 am to 2 pm. She is caring for her three grandchildren while her daughter serves a 5 year prison charge. She is very active in her current neighborhood and elementary school organizations, and, although she is a widow, she has a large extended family in the community that she is moving from. Her community has been incredibly helpful in terms of helping Mrs. Tau to provide before school care for her grandchildren and to be emotionally supportive as well. Mrs. Tau and her grandchildren have become very connected to and involved in their current community.

Mrs. Tau cares for three dependents. The oldest granddaughter is 13 years and attends middle school. She enjoys reading, television, and spending time with her friends and cousins in the neighborhood. The middle granddaughter is 9 years old and attends elementary school. She enjoys playing with neighboring children, YMCA sports programs, and riding her bike. The youngest grandson is 7 years old and attends a school for special needs children. He has behavioral and developmental disorders and has recently been diagnosed with Autism. Mrs. Tau’s grandson requires medication and therapy treatments. He enjoys walks in the park, playing with toys, and listening to music.

Currently, the children receive some state assistance and Medicaid, but towards the end of the month Mrs. Tau struggles to provide food for her three dependents for all three meals a day. Mrs. Tau is hopeful that this promotion will allow her to cover all of her monthly expenses. She also hopes that by moving to your home town/city she will be able to continue to give her grandchildren a secure home and opportunities to continue to participate in the activities that they enjoy. She is also concerned about her grandson and wants to be able to continue to access supportive therapies for him. In her new job she will earn $70,000 a year with full health insurance benefits. She currently owns a car but it is 10 years old and is need of some minor repairs. The car is becoming increasingly unreliable and Mrs. Tau is hopeful the new town/city will have transportation to school for the children and is curious about public transportation options for herself. Mrs. Tau and the grandchildren currently live in a modest house. They are curious about what their new home will look like and ideally would like to continue to live in a 3 bedroom home so that the grandson can have his own room which seems to help with his ability to cope, regulate, and be successful with his school work and his therapies.

    ————————————————

The assignment information posted by the Instructor :

The tools used for business communication have been undergoing profound changes over the past 10+ years. You need to know how to use the traditional tools and to be aware of these new ones to be effective in whatever organization you aspire to work for. This team assignment will introduce some of the ones you are less familiar with and also encourage you to explore how organizations use them.

In addition to Google Documents, the author also introduces many other forms of electronic messaging and digital media, most newer with business uses still evolving (IM, SMS, podcastswebcasts, blogs, RSS, Twitter, StumbleUpon, Pinterest, Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, Discus, SnapChat, Groupon, LivingSocial, and many other” Web 2.0″ tools).

You will start a team exercise that involves following organizations and seeing how they use some of these tools for communication. Each team will do a “social media audit” of a variety of entities. Your audit should include which social networks are currently being used, how they are utilizing it, and how often. The audit needs to include all the main types of platforms, so some will not be used by all of them. Each team should do a retail chain, restaurant chain, professional sports group, non-profit group, and entertainer or program.

This site has a good description of an audit and how to conduct one. It even has instructions on columns to use in a Google sheet for the audit. “How to Conduct a Social Media Audit in Just 30 Minutes” https://neilpatel.com/blog/social-media-audit/ (Links to an external site.)

This blog entry from Hootsuite (one of the social media management platforms) also offers a good synopsis of how and why to conduct an audit https://blog.hootsuite.com/social-media-audit-template/ (Links to an external site.)

Teams will prepare a final report [details below] explaining different ways organizations are using these tools. To start, get together with your team and decide what organizations and tools you follow. ** If you do not have one already, create an account on Twitter (Twitter.com). Please “follow” me [mgmtinstr09]. I post a lot of articles etc. related to the class and businesses.
