Prompt #1: Compare one literary text from the Reformation to a literary text from the Renaissance with particular emphasis on how the literature of each time period reflects the society and culture. Essay: Your comparison/contrast essay should be a minimum of 500 words and should provide analysis of the author’s literary techniques as well as how your chosen texts reflect the society and culture of the time period. Remember to include one selection from the Renaissance and one from the Reformation. Justification should be provided in the form of text evidence and research from academic sources

Prompt #2: Choose either Macbeth, Sir Gawain, or Beowulf to address the following question. What modern values and/or universal themes are evident in the character? What does this tell us about how literature reflects society, culture, place, and/or history?

You may choose to address this prompt in a 400-500 word essay or a 15 slide minimum presentation (Prezi, Swipe, Sway, or Powerpoint). The philosophers studied in this module set the foundations for
political thought. As you read the text and lecture material consider their
views on the proper role of the state.

Discuss
their views on the proper roles of the state and how they might compare to the
US state (government) today. Do you think the philosophers would agree with the
current structure of the American government? Why or why not?

Most discussions on
political thought begin with the early Greek philosophers Socrates, Plato, and
Aristotle as they set the foundation for future studies and had a profound
impact on the future of political thought.

Socrates
is considered by many to be the father of classical political thought. His
teachings and philosophies, however, continue to resonate in the modern era.

Plato,
Socrates’ pupil, opened his own school, The Academy, in 385 where he continued
many of the teachings of Socrates and began to further develop his own. His
most famous writing, The Republic, explains his ideas on the role
of the state and the nature of justice. One of his students was Aristotle.

Aristotle
was Plato’s most famous pupil, even though he frequently disagreed with his teacher. Through his life
he tutored Alexander the Great and founded his own school, The Lyceum.

APA STYLE 1 REFERENCE IN TEXT CITATION

Wouldn’t life be easier if we could be superheroes? Would you want to be Wonder Woman, Superman, or…do you remember…the Wonder Twins? Many of us loved watching (and..tell the truth…pretending to be) superheroes when we were kids. They NEVER messed up or did things wrong. Then, we grew up and realized that even our heroes are not always perfect…if they are human.

We will be reading about heroes over the next few weeks. We will see them in their shining moments, but we will also see their not-so-bright-moments. I want you to “pick” your hero from the two stories we have read so far and share two things that you noticed that made you think that character could be your hero, and I also want you to share two times that you saw that character as human. Some people might calls those times flaws, but because we all have our moments, we’ll just call it a “human” moment.
