SHORT WRITTEN ANALYSIS
You will find in American Promise, volume 2, 6thedition on pages 484-485
excerpts from the diaries of women who moved west and tried to farm the land—
homestead. These are not available in the 7th edition, but a copy is also available as a
.pdf file on the E-Campus course page under Unit 1: Industrializing America 1877-
1900 when you hit the LESSONS tab.
Write in Microsoft Word a short paper in which you explain what you think
about the experiences of these women? What do you think about their hardships and
the advantages they had through the experience?
Most importantly, what do you think about their experiences? Could you see
yourself in their shoes, risking everything to go west and contending with the same
environment that they confronted? What have you learned about the American past
from their experiences? I want to see your reactions, thoughts, and analysis.
Note: With Respect to your short written analysis:
1. These are not collaborative projects. Each student’s work must be his or her own
work. I enforce the college’s code of academic dishonesty to the letter.
2. You will type your name on the upper, right-hand corner.
3. The paper will be double-spaced.
4. Any kind of block style is unacceptable. You will indent each paragraph FIVE
spaces. Failure to indent properly paragraphs will result in an automatic ten-point
deduction in your grade.
5. Save the File in Microsoft Word as a .doc or .docx and name the file by your last
name.
6. You will submit your paper by the DEADLINE below under the ASSIGNMENTS
tab.

This course will require two essay papers with a minimum of three (3) double-spaced pages and a maximum of five (5) double-spaced pages in length. Each essay will count as 15% of your overall grade. You must use three sources to develop your essay, one source should be the textbook, (other sources may include books, journals, etc). You must submit a works cited page listing all the sources from which you gather information to use in the essays. A cover page must be submitted as well, it should include the title, date, your name and which essay it is (First Essay or Second Essay).

It will be the student’s choice of topics from the following list but narrowing down the scope to a particular aspect of the topic is required. The best research papers provide critical analysis (a full explanation) on a single aspect of the topic. In other words, the narrower the scope the better.:

Topic The Civil War in Texas

Sometimes clients come into the counseling session with an immediate crisis. They need an immediate solution to a problem. Counseling in these situations needs to be focused and goal oriented.

Jamila has been working with her counselor on learning to better manage her 9-year-old son. Last night, her son was hit by a car and is in the hospital. This has created a number of problems:

1. She has to arrange childcare for her daughter so she can stay with her son in the hospital.
2. He will need some special care when he gets home because he will be in a wheelchair.
3. She is fearful that she will lose her job as a teacher’s aide in the local public school.

Write a 500-750-word paper addressing the following:

1. How would you prioritize Jamila’s concerns in the counseling session? What would you address first?
2. What steps would you take in this session to make sure that Jamila has the resources she needs right now?
3. How would you help Jamila develop a plan to manage the current crisis?

Include at least three scholarly references in your paper.

Prepare this assignment according to the guidelines found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center. An abstract is required.

You have been asked to create a quality improvement (QI) program that involves 1 specified organizational process such as patient care improvement, patient satisfaction, surgical error prevention, medical error prevention, patient scheduling systems, and so forth.

Complete the following:

• Provide specific details of the organization including at least the following:
  • Location
  • Size
  • Scope or type of personnel
  • Services or products provided
  • Patient demographics
• Analyze the pros and cons of the quality improvement program that you are proposing for the organizational process that you identified.
• Justify the need for this program, and detail all of the program specifics, including a time line from launch to evaluation.
• Develop a communication plan for the quality improvement program.
• Assess the ethical and legal issues involved with the program, including consideration of at least the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and the Patient Bill of Rights.
• Summarize the program with a synopsis that includes information on the who, what, when, where, how, and why criteria. NOTE:Submitting your assignment in APA format means, at a minimum, you will need the following:
  1. TITLE PAGE. Remember the Running head: AND TITLE IN ALL CAPITALS.
  2. ABSTRACT. A summary of your paper, not an introduction. Begin writing in third person voice.
  3. BODY. The body of your paper begins on the page following the title page and abstract page and must be double-spaced (be careful not to triple- or quadruple-space between paragraphs). The type face should be 12-pt. Times Roman or 12-pt. Courier in regular black type. Do not use color, bold type, or italics except as required for APA level headings and references. The deliverable length of the body of your paper for this assignment is 3-4 pages. In-body academic citations to support your decisions and analysis are required. A variety of academic sources is encouraged.
  4. REFERENCE PAGE. References that align with your in-body academic sources are listed on the final page of your paper. The references must be in APA format using appropriate spacing, hang indention, italics, and upper and lower case usage as appropriate for the type of resource used. Remember, the Reference Page is not a bibliography but a further listing of the abbreviated in-body citations used in the paper. Every referenced item must have a corresponding in-body citation.
