Section 1:Background of the Organization (2 to 3 pages)

  • Provide detailed information on the background of the company as well as the current position of the company.

  • Provide the company vision and mission Statement.If the company does not have a vision or mission statement you will need to develop one based on the guidelines discussed in class.

  • Using the PESTLE Assessment Template in ulearn, research and write a paragraph that explains the current state of each item as it relates to your company.
  • Using Porter’s Five Forces Template in ulearn, prepare a competitive analysis of your company.
  • Identify two competing companies and construct a CPM Matrix that lists 5 Critical Success Factors. Use the CPM template located in the Strategy Analysis Templates folder in ulearn.
    • Provide rational as to how the two companies were selected and why the selected critical success factors were selected.
  • Include proper in-text citations as needed.

(Grading will be based on the explanation of each of the 5 forces, the accuracy of the weights and ratings, the depth of your rational, and the use of proper templates).

Section 3:Internal Assessment

  • For this section you will research and write a paragraph that best describes the current internal situation for each functional area of the company.Use the Internal Assessment template located in the template folder.
  • Include proper in-text citations as needed.

(Grading will be based on the accuracy and analysis of the information as well as the use of proper templates)

Section 4:Situational Analysis

  • Using the SWOT Analysis template located in the Strategic Analysis Templates folder of ulearn, list the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats relating to the company.(include 3 strengths, 3 weaknesses, 3 opportunities, and 3 threats).Include rational for each statement.
  • Construct and EFE Matrix.Use the EFE Template found on the Strategy Analysis Templates folder in ulearn.
    • Provide an overall summary on how the weights and ratings were developed.

Section 7: Conclusion and Recommendations (2 – 3 pages)

  • Based the strategies developed in the previous section, discuss which strategy you believe is the best course of action for your company.
  • Develop an action plan as to how the company should proceed with this strategy.Identify any barriers (internal or external) that could inhibit the success of this strategy.
  • Write a conclusion that summarizes your findings from this analysis and discuss the feasibility of your strategy recommendation.

People that abuse substances have individual reasons for what first drove them to begin using these substances in the first place. Some clients started using them through experimentation, peer pressure, or curiosity. However, many users began using substances as a way of dealing with other issues in their lives, such as depression, anxiety, weight loss, or other physical or mental disorders. In still other cases, mental and physical disorders may result in response to chronic substance abuse. In these cases, it is important to determine what the co-occurring disorder is, as well as the substance abuse problem, in order to determine the best course of treatment.

Read the following scenario and then respond to the questions that follow:

You are a substance abuse counselor. Gregory, your new client, has come to you for help with his alcohol use problem. Gregory is married with three children and works as a sales representative for a large corporation in the city. In your first meeting with Gregory, you discover that his drinking began as a way to alleviate the anxiety he felt in social situations. Over time, Gregory began using alcohol more often. He found that every time he used alcohol, his anxiety lifted and he was able to be more at ease during work, out with colleagues, and at other such public events. Over time, Gregory realized he needed more alcohol than before to get the same anxiety relieving effects.
Two weeks ago, one of Gregory’s coworkers became suspicious that Gregory was drinking at work. That same day, while Gregory was driving home from work, he was pulled over by the police. He passed the field sobriety test and the officer let him off with a warning. These two events served as a wake-up call for Gregory as he realized his alcohol use may be beyond his control.
Gregory has made an appointment with you because he sincerely wants to curtail his alcohol use.

To help Gregory achieve his goals, write a paper that analyzes the components of his scenario. In your paper, ensure that you include the following information:

  • Summarize the history and usefulness of the four major contemporary treatment modalities (crisis intervention, individual counseling, group counseling, and family counseling).
  • Evaluate Gregory’s dual diagnosis (also referred to as “co-occurring disorders”) and the implications for counseling. Keep the following questions in mind:

In order to understand those around you and society as a whole, it is important to understand or know yourself, that is, to have self-knowledge. Self-knowledge includes many aspects of the self and is developed with input from many sources. Development of your self-knowledge is influenced by your family and those around you, how you were raised, environment and culture, and the countless experiences you have in your life.

As a simple example, if your parents and teachers consistently told you that you were good with numbers, you probably felt confident that you could succeed in math. If you then succeeded in math courses in school and selected a career in which you could apply your math skills, your self-concept related to math probably would be positive.

In this week’s Assignment, you explore the many different areas that make up self-knowledge, using yourself as an example. By better understanding yourself (self-knowledge), you can better understand others.

To prepare:

  • Read Chapter 5 in your course text, Social Psychology, and thoughtfully complete the following inventories:
    • Measurement of Independence and Interdependence (p. 123)
    • Private Self-Consciousness Scale (p. 127)
  • Read pages 157–159 and 169–186 of Chapter 6 in your course text, Social Psychology.
  • View the video excerpt on self-concept and self-efficacy found at minutes 6:03–10:36 of the video “The Self” (lines 39–73 of transcript).
  • Think about specific sources of your self-knowledge including feedback from others, your self-perception, your social identity, and your culture.
  • Think about one aspect of your life. For example, think about yourself in the role of a student, a spouse, a parent, an employee, or some other role. How would you apply each element of social comparison theory to an aspect of your own life?
  • Recall a time in which you engaged in self-justification and consider how it reduced your cognitive dissonance.

  • Discuss something important you learned about yourself and how you learned it through introspection or through self-perception.
  • Do you have an interdependent view of yourself, an independent view of yourself, or both? What is your culture(s), and how does your culture(s) contribute to this view? What is Sensory Disability?

A sensory disabilities affects one or more senses; sight, hearing, smell, touch, taste or spatial awareness. Sight and hearing loss are common sensory disabilities. Often sensory disabilities are referred to as sensory impairments or sensory sensitivity. A person does not have to have full loss of a sense to be sensory impaired.

Many people with an Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) have sensory sensitivity which can mean difficulty processing everyday sensory information such as sounds, lights, sights and smells. Any of the senses may be over- or under-sensitive, or both, at different times. These sensory differences can affect behavior, and can have a profound effect on a person’s life

A Dual Sensory Impairment (DSI) is the combination of both hearing and sight impairment, but this does not necessarily mean a total loss of both senses. Most people with a dual sensory impairment do have some level of vision and/or hearing. Sometimes dual sensory impairments are referred to as being deaf-blind, when the impairment causes difficulties with communication and hearing. The combination of the two sensory impairments intensifies the impact of each other. Meeting the needs of people who are deaf-blind often requires a specialized approach and individualized communication methods such as tactile sign language.

In this course, I became more aware of the difference between qualitative and quantitative. For instance, before this course, I knew phenomenology was qualitative and hypothesis testing was quantitative. I did not know, however that qualitative methods could involve numbers, as I thought that was only quantitative.

I plan to use a qualitative methodology. The main hurdle I have with my dissertation topic is formulating it with the gap in mind. I know what I want to do, but it is about finding the gap in the literature. I have read many articles, but no gap is sticking out at me that seems plausible. One other issue I am having is that I would like participants to be able to complete an online survey, however, I am also interested in the technique where participant’s answers to questions guide further questions. That issue is one that will be resolved as I learn more and dive farther into the process. I first learned on the DC network that I would need to find a content expert. I saw many posts looking for a content expert. The way this information influences my research plans is that I will have to find a content expert to aide in my research. At this point my research moving forward involves reading the many articles I have already found and see where they take me.
