Portfolios

As Chapter 9 of your text discusses how portfolios are used to develop a
holistic picture of a child’s abilities.  As a teacher, your role in
portfolio assessment is a vital one, but as Wortham (2012) discusses, so
is a child’s parent.  For this journal entry, reflect on the importance
of portfolio assessment in the classroom or childcare center.  

1. How does this type of assessment support you as the caregiver or teacher in your quest to ensure growth?
2. Also, what are some ways that you can include parents in the
   portfolio assessment process, and why is this important for you as a
   teacher or caregiver?
3. How will you involve children in the portfolio process?
4. Lastly, how will you ensure parents see what is in the child’s portfolio?

Rosa was impressed with your initial paper about social media and
mobility marketing. She wonders if using social media and mobility
marketing is important for her existing customers or if it could attract
new customers. You have agreed to put together a brief presentation and
hold a meeting with her to discuss how consumers are different and how
they behave differently when using the Internet, social media, and
mobility devices. You also plan to make some specific recommendations on
strategies that Rosa can use for existing and new customers. For this
task, you should complete the following:

• Prepare a presentation of 7–9 slides.
• Define the purposes of segmentation and targeting.
• Based on the scenario, identify demographic characteristics of
  business-to-consumer (B2C) and business-to-business (B2B) consumers and
  their media habits.
• Recommend at least 4 strategies for reaching and building relationships with customers and prospects.
• Should Rosa add a blog or a product and service review to the Web site? Why or why not?

The slides should be organized as follows:

• Slide 1: Title slide
• Slide 2: Define segmentation and targeting, and discuss the importance of these concepts to marketers.
• Slides 3 and 4: Identify demographic characteristics and media habits of B2C and B2B consumers.
• Slides 5 and 6: Recommend at least 4 strategies for reaching and building relationships with customers and prospects.
• Slide 7: Discuss the pros and cons of blogging.
• Slide 8: State your conclusions and recommendations for Rosa.
• Slide 9: Show references used in making the presentation.

The slides should contain bulleted information. Use the speaker’s
notes feature for each slide to show what you would say as you make your
presentation to Rosa. Each slide should have 50–100 words in the
speaker’s notes.

Text # 1:

Creation myths attempts to reveal the absolute dimension of the relative world. They proclaim the Holy as the ground of being and taking into account the human experience of alienation from this ground, proclaim it also as the goal of all being. They encourage people to understand themselves, physically, mentally, and spiritually, in the context of the cyclic flow of being and not- being and ultimately in the absolute union of this two.

In a Time when old myths are being rejected and “faith” is under attack, these myths rise above the dogmatism and institutionalism which plague all established religions to serve as testament of their common concern. While showing the provincially of each reach religion, they demonstrate the universality of the religious point that, while the worldly is meaningless, the world is full of meaning: people their cultures, and nature itself are all revelations of the Holy, occasions in which transcendent absolute is immanently manifest. The myths are stills valid, because they show how life is a symbol to be lived.

Journals will be collected at the end of the semester. You will be required to write 6 journals over the course of the semester. They can be any comic books, those you have read on your own time or additional selections from those on reserve at the library. The journals will be due when you turn in your final exam on the last day of class. They must be typed with 1” margins. Each must be one page in length, double-spaced

Guidelines for Weekly Journals

At the end of the semester, you will be expected to turn in six journals. You must complete the journals by reading and analyzing comic books you have read outside of class. You should be able to find some at your local library, if you are not in the Canton area. If you are in the area, I have many on reserve at the SUNY Canton Library. Yes, you may also use digital comics. If you have a phone or tablet, you can download Marvel, DC, and Dark Horse applications. Free comics are available (though I’d rather have you read an entire story arc rather than a single issue of a comic). Manga will work as well.

Here’s how you go about it:

Begin with a brief summary. BRIEF. Then, continue with lens analysis: using one of the lenses (or approaches) you are exposed to, analyze the text. For example, perhaps you read Batman: The Dark Knight and decide to use the psychological lens to analyze the work. You select a psychological theory (Erikson’s stages of psychosocial development, for example) and you would determine which stage each of the characters seems to be at. (Interestingly enough, even though characters are three dimensional, they are often caught up in one of the conflicts Erikson discusses in his stages of psychosocial development. Batman, for example, might be caught up in stage 1: trust vs. mistrust. He’s not an infant, but he still seems to be caught up in that conflict, as well as several others.
