You must take a critical orientation and look for themes that exemplify concepts we have covered in this section (Rational Choice, classical criminology, Social Control, conflict criminology, consensus view, etc.).

  1. Watch the movie at least twice and Choose TWO theories from our text, discussion or lecture to help analyze the events in this movie.
  2. Look for scenes related to topics in our course. Take notes as needed to remember relevant scenes that may depict or support the theory you have chosen
  3. Write a criminological analysis of the movie, using the outline below:
    • Movie: Title, Year Released, Director, Main Actors and Character Names
    • Short Summary: What is the main theme of the movie? What relevant subplots will you be discussing later in the paper?
    • Introduce the theory you will be using to guide your analysis. This includes a complete definition of the theory and its application in your paper
  • Describe how the scenes or character helps explain the theory or how the theory is supported in the paper.
  • Be as analytical as you need to be to bring your analysis to life. However, it is important you understand the theory first. The goal of the assignment is to understand the two theories you have chosen in a more applicable way.
  • Conclusions: How does applying this theory to the movie help us understand better? Be sure to be specific about what it is that you understand better.

The post-negotiation analysis will allow you to reflect on your in-class negotiation exercises. It helps you identify both successful and failed strategies and allows you to better prepare for future negotiations. In the analysis, you will describe your perceptions and significant insights gained from negotiation exercises. The discussion should focus on analysis and insights rather than narrative (i.e. what happened). What were the critical factors that affected the negotiation situation and outcomes and what can you say about these factors in general?

Comment on students post

Comment on Students initial posts (casual posts, informal)

TJ: For those who didn’t get a chance to read I spoke about my job and a specific process that is required to take time off. First you must type a letter with letter head requesting the days off that you want, next you must then hand deliver it to your immediate supervisor. Once delivered the supervisor must sign and approve the request by checking the time book to see if that certain day is available to be taken off. Once approved they must return the letter to you with a signature and “approved stamp”. As you can imagine this is a lengthy process just to use vacation time and can be streamlined and more effective in many other ways. I do believe that once upon a time this was the most effective way to get things done, but as we know technology is making things easier and our lives more convenient. To streamline this process, I suggested a HR type of portal that people would be able to access from their smartphones, and would be able to complete this task in a matter of a few clicks and not have to bother a supervisor with such request. A process like this would benefit all parties, it would be more convenient for workers and for the supervisor it would less paper on your desk while focusing on more important task. This would boost efficiency companywide!

a) I agree/disagree with TJ, tell why (100-120 words)

b) Ask a question or provide references to support your statement

AK: A problem i have in my student and professional life is concentrating on a particular task for a long period of time. In my student life i struggle studying for an adequate amount of time. I tend to get bored and instead of focusing on the task at hand i lose focus easily on pay attention to things of lesser importance. I can also tend to have this problem at work, by focusing on multiple tasks at once oppose to focusing on one at a time. To execute this solution i will go to a private room in a library to help improve my studying habits.

In order to improve my study habits i found an article by Zain Nabi called Study Tips: How to Stay Focused. In the article it states 4 great tips to help improve studying. The first is to Set Study Goals. I really liked this tip because it is a great idea, by setting goals for yourself you feel obligated to meet them in the allotted time, so by setting goals you will focus more. The second tip is to make a study timetable. This is a good idea because you can keep your studying organized and document it properly. The third tip is to learn to say no. This is crucial in order to improve studying because you need to limit how much time you spend doing unproductive things and spend more time being productive. The final tip is to stay focused on your priorities, by keeping a note book and document my study time and free time it’ll help keep me on track.

a) I agree/disagree with AK, tell why (100-120 words)

b) Ask a question or provide references to support your statement or provide a website that might be helpful to her.
