Topic 5 DQ1

Stakeholder support is necessary for a successful change proposal
project implementation. Consider your internal stakeholders, such as
the facility, unit or health care setting where the change process is
situated, and your external stakeholders, like an individual or group
outside the health care setting. Why is their support necessary to the
success of your project, and how you will go about securing that support?

Topic 5 DQ2

Technology is integral to successful implementation in many projects,
through either support or integration or both. Name at least one
technology that could improve the implementation process and the
outcomes of your EBP project. Do you plan to use this technology? If
not, what are the barriers that prevent its use?

There are two choices for this question. Choose one question for your main post. Be sure to label which choice you selected in your main post. Please address all parts of the question in your main post. Besides your main post, you need to submit at least two replies to the main posts of classmates. You should post at least one reply to a classmate who answered the alternative question.

Designing a Study

The course text and reading materials refers to several research methods — “correlational designs”, “experimental designs”, “naturalistic observations”  “surveys” and “case studies” — for the study of psychological issues. 

1. Imagine you are a psychology researcher/social scientist and want to examine how the use of technology (i.e., use of cell phones, texting, Facebook, etc) has affected social interactions and behavior between high school students.  
2. What might be one or more hypotheses you want to test?
3. Pick a research method you might consider using for this study and explain why you chose that method rather than others. 
4. Discuss what challenges, problems, and limitations you might encounter when doing a research study on this area.   

Reviewing a Study

Find an article published in a scientific journal within the last 6 years about any area of psychology – social psychology, personality, motivation, emotion, consciousness, facial recognition, mental disorders, psychological treatment, etc.  Use the ESC Library or another college library to search for psychology articles. Do not use Wikipedia, About.com, Google, Google Scholar, etc. as your source.

1. Read the article and in your own words, describe the study and its purpose in a paragraph or two.  Do not simply copy and paste the article abstract.  
2. Include a hyper link to the article so others in class can read and comment too.
3. Identify and describe what was the hypothesis or hypotheses being studied? 
4. Identify and describe what research method(s) was used – observations in a lab, natural observations, surveys, case study, correlational study, experiment etc.? 
5. What was the overall result of the study? 

“Information science is the systematic study and analysis of the sources, development, collection, organization, dissemination, evaluation, use, and management of information in all its forms, including the channels (formal and informal) and technology used in its communication” (School of information, 2017).

The way I use informatics in my clinical practice is by storing any documentation I do when I take care of my patient. Also, by reviewing any pertinent information, I need to safely care for my patient. I believe the electronic health record (EHR) I use at my hospital meets with the federal set goals. We can improve quality, safety, and efficiency. Some of the ways we improve safety is by scanning the patient’s id band before we give any medication. With this program, we are able to retrieve information needed to care for the patient because every member of the healthcare documents in this system allowing us to coordinate care. All information is easily accessible to any healthcare provider. Making our job more efficient because we don’t have to call for every little question. We can review the notes made by anyone who has cared for the patient. We engage patients and families by replying to emails online. We ensure privacy and security for our patients by not sharing our password. We log off the system when we are finished documenting and we do not leave the computer unattended if we are logged in. (Hood, 2018)

Some of the ethical issues that could arise when using EHR are viewing information on someone you are not taking care of, such as a co-worker or even a family member. “Access to private health information (PHI) is limited either to people who are directly involved in the client’s care or to people designated by the client” as stated by Huchenski (in Hood, 2018). Just because we have access to someone’s medical records doesn’t give us the right to look at it, that is where being ethical comes into play.
